He highlighted the significant improvement in campus safety, noting that the last major incident requiring police intervention occurred around 2005. At that time, the President recalled, OOU had a reputation for deeply entrenched cult activities, a period he experienced during.
On Monday, March 24, 2025, the Student Union Government (SUG) of Olabisi Onabanjo University embarked on a visit to the university's residential hostels. The goal was to assure students that the current administration would be inclusive and supportive of every student's needs.
However, during a subsequent visit to Sycamore Hostel, the SUG President was met with an even more disappointing response. The turnout was lower, with mostly 100-level students in attendance. This lackluster reception was seen as a discouraging attitude toward the President and
The SUG President countered this claim, emphasizing that his administration marked a new beginning, committed to working with every student, regardless of past grievances. He reiterated his dedication to serving the students, rather than playing politics.
The following day, the SUG President invited the Sycamore Hostel governors for a meeting, where he expressed his disappointment at their behavior. The governors attributed their actions to the SUG's on how they perceived oppression.
The governor of Sycamore Hostel was summoned, and when he arrived, the SUG President extended a handshake, which was met with a less-than-enthusiastic response. The President and his team soon left.
The SUG President and his entourage received warm welcomes at each hostel, except for Sycamore Hostel. Upon arrival, the President was met with a lukewarm response, and the number of students who came out to greet him was underwhelming.
