There’s a lady in our area whom everybody knew as an OS. But she eventually opened a shop in the neighborhood, and I guessed she wanted to start making a decent living. Perhaps she was still doing her OS business low key….I didn’t know, and it wasn’t my business.

One day, on my way home, I stopped at her shop to buy beer. I asked for canned Heineken, but she said she didn’t have it and offered me other brands. I bought one of the alternatives, but I told her Heineken was my brand and that she should try to keep it in stock if she wanted me to become a regular customer.

The next day, as I was passing by, she shouted, “Customer, I get Heineken o!”

I parked immediately and bought from her.

Fast-forward to one evening when we had a meeting in our compound about increasing the security and waste disposal fees. As we were concluding, this same lady mistakenly walked into our compound. The moment she saw me, she shouted, “Customer, na here you dey live?”

I went over to ask what she was looking for, only to discover that she had lost her way. I directed her to where she was going and turned back.

People were already whispering among themselves. The looks on their faces told me they had concluded a completely different story in their heads. Nobody said anything directly to me, but everybody looked at me somehow before they eventually left.

No Country Seeks To Make Every Citizen A Graduate; Electricians And Chefs Are In Short Supply — Senator Oshiomhole Tells Nigerian Youths To Consider Technical Careers Instead Of Spending More Time In University

Senator Adams Oshiomhole, representing Edo North, has urged Nigerian youths to consider technical careers, citing shortages of electricians and chefs in Abuja.

Speaking during a Senate debate on a bill to amend the National Senior Secondary Education Act, Oshiomhole said countries should prioritise basic education rather than making everyone a university graduate.

“There is no country that seeks to make sure that every citizen is a graduate, but every country seeks to ensure that every citizen has sound basic education,” he said.

He added that basic education could equip citizens to pursue technical skills such as bricklaying and other vocational careers.

“Today, sir, in Abuja, go through some of the construction companies, they will tell you there is advocacy for electrician, there is none, sir. Ambassadors told me they are looking for chef they can’t find,” he said.

He argued that technical careers could offer better earnings than some university qualifications.

“So if a man or a woman has that basic education, he can veer it to this other technical career which in the end may even equip them to earn more money than what you will earn if you go and do public admin…”

Oshiomhole said he was not dismissing university education, noting that many lawmakers administer public affairs without degrees in public administration.

He supported the bill’s intention but called for its draft to be examined for loopholes and safeguards to ensure funds are used for their intended purpose.

“I think the bill is good, the intention is clear, but that is not enough. We need to see the draft of the bill so that we can all see if there are loopholes to be provided,” he said.

Senate President Godswill Akpabio announced that the bill had passed its second reading and referred it to the Senate Committee on Education, Basic and Secondary Education, which was given four weeks to report back.

Before 2020, I was always leaving the house every day of the week to work.

Sometimes, I would return home at 8 or 9pm.

Once I enter the house, my wife would welcome me.

On the TV, she would be watching one movie or series.

Then she will change the channel to CNN or BBC for me and ask me to go shower and have dinner.

"This is what you stay at home all day to do. Watch Telemundo or Zee world. You stay at home all day doing nothing. I go out every day to earn money to provide you for you and these children. Lazy woman!"

She won't say anything to me.

She'll go to the kitchen and wait for me to shower before dishing out my food.

I would notice that her eyes were blurry.

In the morning, I would be off by latest 6:30 am.

One day, I came back home, and my wife said that she wanted to discuss with me.

"Sweetie, I am depressed. I want to go back to work. I feel like I am useless in this marriage and I am not contributing anything to it. Please, help me find a job"

I blasted her and told her that I got a job without her, and I used my qualifications to apply, and that she should do same.

My wife cried so much that night.

Then came covid 19...

My office had asked us to start working from home.

Monday to Friday, I was home working.

My kids were still going to school under strict covid rules.

I started studying my wife more.

This woman was not resting.

I figured that she was only watching those series or shows just to stay awake to welcome me back home.

She was busier than I was.

She showed me what it meant to have a wife who is a housewife.

One day, I could not take it anymore.

"Baby, you have been asking me to pay you monthly salary, I think you're right. I will be giving you the money"

Covid made me appreciate my lovely wife, more.

Despite dating her for 9 years, I still could not see that God had blessed me enormously.

Because I was carried away by my female colleagues that were age mates with me and working.

And I wanted my wife to "fit in".

I was wrong.

That was why in 2021, I came here to write that a housewife that is playing her role effectively and efficiently without bringing a dime is not a liability.

It took me years into marriage to realize this.

My lovely wife is a hard worker.

And I have seen and still seeing the results of her hardwork on our lovely children.

Our children are so smart and they're high flyers in their schools.

Not only that, they are well behaved and very respectful and contented with what they have.

All made possible because of my lovely wife.

As a man, if you have a wife like mine, please be kind and be patient with her.

Yes, she may not be bringing money, but that's not her primary role or responsibility.

Your Lovely wife is more valuable to you than the money that you hope to be getting from her.

Lots of Security incidents today, here's some practical tips for those who just wanna protect yourself:

1) UPDATE EVERYTHING - main targets are:
a) Browsers - Chrome, Safari, Firefox
b) OS: : Settings -> General -> software update; Linux: sudo apt update && sudo apt upgrade; Windows: I think there's a button. Do this for any remote home servers & Openclaw/hermes boxes
c) Phones: Update it all
d) Desktop apps (Slack, Cursor, Discord, etc)

2) Limit web browsing this week: Stay within walled gardens (twitter, youtube, etc); don't click random links this week. Just wait until the patches go through. Do step 1 again after a week.

3) Avoid untrusted Wifi networks until your devices are updated

4) Stay vigilant about phishing emails offering "certificate fixes" or fraud updates

5) Have an iPhone 11-16? TURN BLUETOOTH OFF for the time being until apple patches come through.

6) Code/Dev: UPDATE ALL YOUR REPOS - @charliermarsh has already updated uv 0.13.4 which reacts to the eMudra incident for uv (Python), Typesript according to Claude has equivelant. Tell your agents to go and update all your active repos to update package manager across uv, npm, bun, cargo, etc etc
