Step by step guide on how to run AI In Your Terminal (MAC GUIDE)
Three tools, one by one. Each one uses a subscription you may already pay for, so you don't need an API key or extra billing.
1. Claude Code: uses your Claude Pro
2. Codex: uses your ChatGPT Plus/Pro
3. Hermes Agent: uses your Grok (SuperGrok / X Premium+)
---
Part 0; Terminal Setup Basics (skip if you've used it before)
Open Command Terminal: press (Command + Space) and type (Terminal), press Enter.
A window opens with a line ending in "%". T
Install Apple's developer tools first. Everything below needs them.
To instal run (```bashxcode-select --install```)
A box pops up. Click "Install" and wait. If it says "already installed", you're fine.
Optional but useful: Homebrew. It's the app store for the terminal. To install run;
(```bash/bin/bash -c "$(curl -fsSL https://t.co/ufNyVks8UL)"```)
It will ask for your Mac password. Nothing shows on screen while you type it. that's normal. Type it and press Enter.
When it finishes, it may print two `echo` commands for you to run. Run them.

Part 1: Claude Code (with Claude Pro)
What you need
- macOS 13 or newer
- 4 GB RAM
- A *paid* Claude plan (Pro, Max, Team or Enterprise). The free plan does not work.
> Step 1. Install
Pick one. The first is easiest.
(```bashcurl -fsSL https://t.co/xNYTHkvrFM | bash```)
Or with Homebrew: (```bash brew install --cask claude-code```)
Step 2. Restart your terminal
Close the Terminal window and open a new one. This makes the `claude` command work.
Step 3. Check if it installed. Run (```bash claude --version```)
If it installed, you should see a version number like `2.1.212 (Claude Code)`.
Step 4. Go to a folder and start it. To start run this command: (```bash cd ~/Desktop claude```)
Step 5. Log in with your subscription. to login, run (/login)...On first run it opens your browser. Choose *the Claude account with your subscription* not an API key. Log in, approve, come back to the terminal.
You're in. Type what you want in plain English and press Enter.
Useful tip: Run (```bash claude doctor```) to check your setup if something feels wrong.
Run (```bash claude update```)
Updates to the newest version.
Part 2: Codex (with ChatGPT Plus / Pro)
What you need
A *paid* ChatGPT plan (Plus, Pro, Business, Edu or Enterprise). Free does not work.
If this is your first time using your Terminal, go back and install dependencies as shown at the start. If you've already done that. Then lets continue.
Step 1. Install chatGPT
Pick one. (```bash curl -fsSL https://t.co/B2lDs8p3Wc | sh```)
Or with Homebrew: (```bash brew install --cask codex```)
NOTE: Be careful: on npm the correct package is `@openai/codex`. A package just called "codex" exists and is a different, unrelated project.
Step 2. Restart your terminal
Step 3. Check it installed. Run (```bash
codex --version```)
Step 4: Go to a folder and start it by running (```bash cd ~/Desktop codex```)
Step 5. Log in with your subscription
On the first screen choose *Sign in with ChatGPT*. Your browser opens. Log in with the account that holds your Plus or Pro plan, approve it, return to the
terminal.
Done. You can now start prompting your Ai via command terminal.
Benefits. The Ai now lives right inside your laptop and has direct access to run files and control your laptop.
At first it will ask for permision to access some.
