The members of the OPP Association are thinking of the Belleville Police Service officer who was shot in the line of duty at the Sons of Jacob Synagogue Sunday evening in Belleville.

Thankfully reports are that the officer's injuries are not life threatening. A suspect was wounded and reported to be in life threatening condition in hospital. The SIU has invoked their mandate.

Our thoughts are also with the officer's family, loved ones and colleagues, as well as the Jewish community everywhere.

This shooting happened last night on Yom Kippur, as Jewish communities around the world gathered to celebrate the holiest day of the Jewish year.

We strongly condemn this violence at a place of worship on a sacred day.

We’re saddened to hear that a @TorontoPolice officer was shot this morning, but relieved that their injuries are not life-threatening. Violence against police is unacceptable. The Police Association of Ontario stands united against such acts and remains committed to supporting our members who work tirelessly to protect our communities. Press Release: Statement on Line of Duty Death of OPP Provincial Constable Tarun Bali

It is with great sadness that we inform our Membership that OPP Provincial Constable Tarun Bali, Dufferin County Detachment, Central Region died in the line of duty today while working with the James Bay Detachment, North East Region.

The circumstances related to the line of duty death are under investigation by the OPP’s Criminal Investigation Branch.

Our thoughts are with the Member’s family, friends, and colleagues during this incredibly difficult time.

OPP Association President David Sabatini stated “This is every police and family member’s worst nightmare. This is another reminder of the dangers that our Members face each and every day as they serve and protect the citizens of Ontario. On behalf of the OPP Association, we extend our heartfelt condolences to Provincial Constable Bali’s family, friends and colleagues. We will steadfastly support PC Bali’s family and co-workers.”

Tuesday morning, Dalton Associates’ CEO, Carl Dalton, presented updates on the Encompas Mental Health Wellness Program, including our new Encompas promotional video filmed this summer, as well as new program features launching this fall and early 2026, such as the Encompas Equipt mobile app, Member Portal enhancements, and SMS Texting support. Today, we had the opportunity to share more about our work with an information booth at the event.
