There is baking the cake, and there is sharing it. The two are inseparable stages of any nation’s progress.

In Kenya, however, our politicians seem more interested in debating how to slice the cake long before the oven is even preheated. They discuss distribution before production — allocation before creation. Yet, amid this misplaced enthusiasm for sharing what has not been baked we end up missing out on the wider goal of Vision 2030 which is now only 5 years away.

I still believe that, one day, our leaders will not only permit but actively cultivate an enabling environment where hardworking Kenyans can roll up their sleeves, light the ovens of enterprise, and bake not just a cake — but a bigger, richer one that everyone can partake in with pride.

Please allow us to bake the cake before insisting to eat it.
