Oregon Sexual Assault Task Force improves the response to and prevention of sexual violence through training, technical assistance, & legislative advocacy.
We had another good Q/A session today on how we can better support victims and survivors during this #StayAtHomeSaveLives time.
Thank you to @OregonCoalition and @ORSATF for your support. And, thank you to all the other shelters, advocates and front line organizations right now
@ORDOJ @ORDOJ always take the survivors lead. They know their situation better than anyone. Be a consistent source of support for their choices and honor their autonomy. #believesurvivors#OregonSAAM2020
@ORDOJ 5: Signs of domestic violence include visible signs of injury, illness related to abuse (anxiety, stress), lack of focus and behavior changes.
What to do-- 1. Reach out privately (keep it simple and express concern) 2. Listen and validate their feelings 3. Offer Assistance
Even though we are not all together physically, there are things we can look for, even from afar:
•verbally insulting or humiliating a partner
•keeping a partner from contacting their family or friends, even virtually
•withholding money

@ORDOJ @ORDOJ we can address violence by showing up for prevention. We have prepared a free prevention audio library, highlighting how communities are showing up for survivors and ending violence before it begins because #violenceispreventable https://t.co/PYHkiUFwyb
@ORDOJ @ORDOJ Disclosing experiences of violence and abuse to others and fear of not being believed is a consistent barrier for many survivors, which is why we must always #startbybelieving#OregonSAAM2020

Members in the News- Julie Valentine (UT) emphasizes the importance of the medical forensic exam - “Victims should receive compassionate, holistic care by in-person, specially educated sexual assault nurse or medical examiners.”
