Without ORiE volunteers there would be no ORiE outreach! You are all so important in telling people about OR and the possibilities it holds. #thankyou#volunteersweek
For our last thank you, we want to shout out all of the volunteers who’ve taken the time to get involved despite COVID turning all of our lives upside down for 2 years!
Our last #statistic of the day, proving that you have made a huge difference in empowering young people: over 50,000 more people have learned about OR thanks to the hard work of ORiE volunteers!
For #PowerofYouth day we want to give extra special thanks to all of the student members of the ORS, who have volunteered at careers fairs and science fairs to inspire their peers.
Today is #PowerofYouth day, the perfect time to recognise all of the empowering ORiE volunteers do in their work with young people! ORiE volunteers encourage students to think about mathematical careers they might not have thought about previously.
#volunteervoices If you have a friend or colleague who has been an awesome volunteer, tag them here to share the love!
If you have a friend or colleague who would enjoy volunteering with ORiE, tell them to sign up!
ORiE volunteers regularly use skills honed in their careers to volunteer. Check out this playlist of awesome volunteers giving talks about their careers in OR: https://t.co/HteDbTxGod
OR is all about solving problems and helping people, and many volunteers enjoy doing just that. When you put it like that, you can see why we have so many wonderful volunteers!
Some photos from 3-day New Scientist Live, Manchester with @ORinEducation
Was slightly too busy to manage photos of the 2000 (or so) school children finding out about the travelling salesman puzzle and/or the 9 times table!! 😂😂
Happy International Day of Women and Girls in Science! Today I'll be shouting out some notable women from Maths & OR, feel free to add your own amazing women to the thread!
First up, Eunice Newton Foote, who was a climate science pioneer #WomenInScience https://t.co/E7xLoNEDGf
Lastly, we have Mary Tsingou Menzel, an unsung pioneer in computer simulation. Learn about her achievements here: https://t.co/UNajrXx3zn #WomenInScience
