On this Juneteenth holiday, I join the @OregonState community to commemorate the historic day in 1865 when news of their freedom finally reached enslaved African Americans in Texas, three years after the Emancipation Proclamation was signed.
Today, we recall the ongoing, damaging legacy of slavery and racism, and recommit to removing barriers to opportunity for Black and African American communities at OSU and beyond. #Juneteenth2023
