Trump’s plan for price floors in lithium & rare earths could have seismic impact on the market. Expect targeted floors tied to national security, not a broad system. Yet the narrative alone may spark a new investment wave — perception moves markets long before policy. ⚡ #Lithium #Gallium #Graphite #Cobalt #Copper #Niobium #Cesium
If the administration enforces price floors for strategic minerals, which looks very likely right now, it could flip the lithium market overnight — not as a climate move, but as a national security and industrial policy play. Even a pro-fossil government could use it to look like the “good guy” defending U.S. supply chains while quietly securing the energy transition.
⚡ The Idea
A price floor guarantees a minimum value for lithium, rare earths, and other critical minerals.
🧩 Counters Chinese dumping and predatory pricing.
🏗️ Stabilizes domestic mining, refining, and supply chains.
💰 Restores investment confidence and enables long-term financing.
It reframes lithium as a strategic resource, not a climate tool — “energy dominance 2.0.”
🦅 The Political Spin
Trump could frame it as:
🇺🇸 “We’re ending dependence on China.”
💼 “We’re bringing mining and refining jobs back home.”
⚡ “We’re securing America’s industrial future.”
It allows him to appear pro-worker and pro-industry while staying loyal to fossil supporters — nationalism dressed as modernization.
⚖️ Why It’s Not Market Manipulation
This isn’t manipulation in the Wall Street sense.
Manipulation is private distortion for profit.
This is state stabilization — a sovereign tool to counter foreign market manipulation.
It’s similar to:
🏦 The Fed setting interest rates to prevent financial shocks.
🛢️ Or OPEC managing oil production to stabilize prices — but instead of maximizing profits, the U.S. would be ensuring supply security and investment viability.
So yes, it interferes with the market — but for strategic resilience, not speculation.
🌱 The Quiet ESG Layer
Even under this banner, the policy could quietly reward responsible operators:
✅ Only ESG-compliant projects qualify for the floor.
🧾 Certification, carbon benchmarks, and local consent baked in.
🌍 Aligns with automaker and investor sourcing mandates — without using “green” rhetoric.
Patriotism on the outside, sustainability built into the core.
⚠️ The Trade-Offs
💸 Costly to enforce — may require stockpiles or guaranteed procurement.
🔥 Could spark WTO disputes or trade retaliation.
🪫 Risks propping up inefficient players.
🗳️ Dependent on political durability.
But done right, it could create a security-plus-ESG bloc that rivals China’s dominance through cleaner, transparent production.
🧩 The Bottom Line
⚡ Stabilizes domestic supply and investment.
🌱 Rewards clean, compliant producers.
💪 Weakens China’s pricing power.
🇺🇸 Lets Trump pose as the “protector of American energy” — while advancing the electrified economy under another name.
It’s not market manipulation; it’s strategic stabilization — OPEC logic applied to lithium, but in service of security over profit.
American Battery Technology $ABAT released a pre-feasibility study for its Tonopah Flats Lithium Project in Nevada, projecting 30,000 tonnes of lithium hydroxide monohydrate annually over a 45-year mine life.
The study values the project at $2.57B NPV (8%), with a 21.8% IRR and 7.5-year payback, on $2B initial capex and $4,307/tonne processing cost.
Resources rose 53% to 15.8M tonnes, with 2.73M tonnes of proven and probable reserves. The project has $900M EXIM Bank financing approval, FAST-41 federal permitting, and will use proprietary claystone extraction tech without acid leaching.
Today marks a major milestone in our drive to strengthen America’s energy independence. We have officially published the Pre-Feasibility Study (PFS) for our Tonopah Flats Lithium Project, confirming its immense potential and robust economic outlook.
Our CEO, Ryan Melsert, puts it best: "The project metrics demonstrated in this PFS are further validation that the first-principles physics based, internally-developed design for this claystone to battery grade critical mineral lithium hydroxide processing train is highly competitive in both the U.S. and the global markets. It confirms the immense potential of the Tonopah Flats Lithium Project in this momentous moment when the U.S. is facing restrictions on the sourcing of critical minerals and extreme pressure to ramp the manufacturing of these critical minerals from domestic resources.”
Key highlights from the study include:
👉A strong after-tax net present value (NPV) of $2.57 billion
👉A 53% increase in Measured and Indicated lithium resources
👉Establishment of 2.73 million tonnes of proven and probable lithium reserves
We celebrate this achievement as a testament to our team's resilience and unwavering commitment. Driven by determination and purpose, we are forging ahead to create a sustainable, domestic supply chain for critical battery metals—strengthening our nation’s future one milestone at a time.

Regardless of what anyone thinks of this policy…….It is indeed very supportive to our American industries to be competitive against our foreign adversaries
This is especially the case for #critical minerals
Additionally, it is a VERY bullish catalyst for investors
