On This Day - In 1971 Jack Nicklaus won his second of five PGA Championships. Beating the reigning Masters champion, Billy Casper by two strokes.

Nicklaus became the first golfer in history to complete the modern career Grand Slam for a second time. He would then go on to complete his third career grand slam at the 1978 Open Championship.

On This Day - In 1999 Aston Villa became the last Premier League team to field an all-English starting XI, losing 4-1 to Coventry. This event reflected the growing internationalization of English football, as such lineups became increasingly rare.

On This Day in 1987 - Michael Jordan broke the Chicago Bulls single game scoring record when he scored 58 pts against the Nets. Just a week after his 24th birthday, Jordan, without attempting a single 3-point shot, went 16-for-25 and 26-for-27 from the free throw line.

MJ would go on to surpass this total 5 more times in his career while playing for the bulls. Including the current single game record of 69 pts on March 28th, 1990.

On This Day in 1964 a young Cassius Clay—later known as Muhammad Ali—won the world heavyweight boxing title by defeating Sonny Liston in Miami Beach. The fight ended when Liston didn’t come out for the seventh round, marking a seismic shift in boxing history and launching Ali’s legendary career. It’s remembered not just for the upset but for Ali’s brash confidence that redefined the sport’s spotlight.

The two men fought again the following May, resulting in perhaps one of the most iconic photos in boxing, or even sports, history.
