@MMnotine Correct. However, part of it was the luxury tax. I think the two things collided and IF Bloom was given this autonomy, he did the best he could to get both things done at once with no prospect capital loss.
This feels like ownership leaking information to pin some of the bad juju on Chaim and take the heat off of them after a tough handling of Betts, Bogaerts, and now Devers.
@craig_teed The way your original tweet reads is that if Devers is traded, Turner is a safety net for that instance.
Either way, it's definitely a depth building move, as this past year proved that depth was a little bit of an issue.
@craig_teed I think it's more he's safety for Devers and Casas if either gets hurt like this past year. I doubt they're thinking Devers will be traded and Turner is going to be their #1 3B.
Mancini also probably wants the bag.

Meanwhile: Rafael Devers's leverage in his contract talks with the Red Sox just went off the charts. As with Judge and the Yankees: The team needs the player now more than the player needs the team. The Red Sox will have to tack on a Betts/Bogaerts tax to their offer.
Alright, Xander Bogaerts got the BAG from San Diego. The Red Sox should not have messed around extending him, but you can't fault the Red Sox for not going 11 years at nearly $30 million.
Now if Devers walks within the next year? We grab our torches and pitchforks.
