Scientists have discovered a groundbreaking way to silence HIV using parts of its own genetic code.

Researchers in Japan and the United States have identified molecular “switches” within the virus that can turn off its activity and keep it dormant for long periods. Instead of destroying the virus, this approach aims to reprogram it to remain inactive inside the body.

If proven safe in human trials, this could transform HIV treatment, offering a path to long-term control without constant medication. It represents a powerful new idea in virology using a virus’s own biology to prevent it from causing harm.
