OUSD and OEA have made stunningly little progress in reaching a deal to get our kids back to the classroom. We don't want our kids to be left behind as neighboring districts open up!
Please join us for a rally next Sunday and spread the word!! #openschools
OUSD starts a new year tomorrow. We’re very glad to hear @OaklandEA pres Keith Brown encouraging all teachers to get vaxxed and suggesting he might be open to mandates for all school employees.
Adults must do everything in their power to give @OUSDNews students a full school year
It’s very disheartening to see @KPIXtv and other local news stations continually giving a radical sect of the OEA (BAMN) airtime when they are so out of touch with the desires of most Oakland teachers and parents. They say no one should go back to school until all kids are vaxxed
Hard to read this after fighting like hell for an entire year to prevent it. The national emergency that was never treated as such. Devastating.

We are looking for volunteers to help Oakland schools get ready for their first day of in-person learning next Monday, August 9th! Please sign-up for a shift (and bring a friend!) https://t.co/KWFzoZDQt9 🍎✏️✨ #oaklandschoolvolunteers#communityunity#edfundmagic
.@OUSDNews We think parents would be very interested in knowing what % of OUSD teachers have been vaccinated.
Are you planning on releasing that information?
NEW: CA will have the strongest state vaccine verification system in the US and will require state employees & healthcare workers to provide proof of vaccination—or get tested regularly.
We’re experiencing a pandemic of the unvaccinated. Everyone that can get vaccinated—should.
Incredible reporting by @jocelynwiener focusing on the vast inequality within our city and chronicling 3 East Oakland high schoolers throughout the pandemic.
A year+ of school closures has taken a terrible toll on them - never again can we let this happen

Why is the union STILL negotiating "additional safety measures" when members have been vaccinated for months??
And why can unions overrule state and local public health guidelines in determining what is "safe"??
It's unconscionable that @OUSDNews and @OaklandEA will wait until next month to negotiate what the return to school will look like a mere month later.
Hammer out the details ASAP - Oakland parents know what happens when you say "wait and see"

Let’s prioritize the needs of students and families in CA and get all TK-12 public school students back to full-time school in the fall.
Let’s reimagine education reform in CA by centering the voices of families with @OpenSchoolsCA. #FiveFullDaysInFall#K12ParentPower
Exciting news today!!
We're announcing the formation of a non-profit organization to increase student and parent power through policy recommendations, and political candidate recruitment and support in post-COVID California

Great to see Oakland parents and leaders involved in the efforts to get parents and kids a seat at the table!
We can't allow our voices and those of our kids to go ignored again.
Join and support @OpenSchoolsCA today! https://t.co/msnL9jyVuJ
The group of California parents who have been pushing for reopening over the last year (@OpenSchoolsCA) today formed a non-profit org to "increase student and parent power through policy recommendations, and political candidate recruitment and support in post-COVID CA."
Students in schools that were fully remote for most of this school year received less instructional time and were more likely to be absent and receive a failing grade than students who were attending classes in person, a new report finds.

@samdavis510@OaklandEA to find out who that site rep was in order to stem the tide of harmful rumors??
Also, you were literally elected by us and when we have concerns you need to be responsive without dismissing us. Shifting blame for the rumor onto us is really disappointing.
@samdavis510@OaklandEA claimed that OEA would be trying to negotiate down to 5 hours/day. So that is NOT a contradiction of the district's announcement that it will offer 5 days/week instruction - it was a clear statement that OEA wanted to try and shorten teachers' workday. Why aren't you & OEA trying
