Last Sunday, our group of Operation Understanding DC fellows convened on zoom with Mr. Anderson Flen, community advocate for Africatown, Alabama to advance our goal of familiarizing ourselves with the experience and relationship of Black and Jewish Americans.
Our Social Justice Fellows recently met with Professor LaNitra Berger, the Director of African and African American Studies at George Mason University to talk about the relationship between Jewish and African-American Communities.

Considered the "Father of South African Jazz", Hugh Masekela (1939–2018) was a dedicated anti-apartheid advocate and social activist. Masekela created anti-apartheid anthems that helped comfort and inspire in times of struggle, proving art and activism can go hand in hand. #BHM
Marsha P. Johnson was an outspoken LGBTQ+ activist and central figure in the gay liberation movement following the Stonewall police raid of 1969. An advocate and organizer for LGBTQ+ youth experiencing homelessness and a voice to the voiceless, her legacy will live on. #BHM
