Wishing our friends at @OVCOrch all the best on their concert today. They’re doing Bruckner 4. What community ensemble does Bruckner 4? Rockstars, that’s who!!
Performed repertoire audit continues. Next category, 20th century.
Spoiler alert: We've done so much American music, we might be mistaken as a nationalist group...though could also be mistaken as the Copland house orchestra. sorry-not-sorry?
Lachian Dances - Janacek, Feb/May 2019
Lincoln Portrait - Copland, April 2019
Knoxville: Summer of 1915 - Barber, April 2019
Amahl and the Night Visitors - Jan, 2020
***Carmina Burana was programed but not performed due to pandemic*** 😥😥
With the cost of new music and the youth of our orchestra, I'd say that's pretty good. Looking forward to performing more AND adding to the orchestral repertoire.
It might be tax filing season for you, but for us it's time for a good old fashioned new music audit! (new = composer living, literature written in the last 30 yrs)
In 8 seasons, with 3 concerts each season, and 3 pieces on each concert, the OVCO has performed:
Premiered as part of an Orchestra Consortium:
"Symphonic Overture" - Josh Reznicow, April 2019
Performed a number of new works for string orchestra at the Iowa Composers Forum Summer Symposium in August of 2019
"Danzon No. 2" - Marquez, Feb 2022
@FtDodgeSymphony@jowrotethis Wonder when this pic was taken...So many white men! Also, the woman (clarinetist?) who broke the glass ceiling into the berlin phil is an interestingly sad story.
