Willie Mays, one of the greatest baseball players in history, has died at the age of 93.
He began his career in baseball at the age of 16 when he joined the Negro League and a few years later, after graduating high school, he signed with the New York Giants. Mays was a 24-time All Star, two-time MVP and was elected to the Hall of Fame in 1979. His iconic catch in Game 1 of the 1954 World Series is known as one of the most famous plays in history.
In addition to being the top all-around player in his time, he was a hero to his local community in Harlem. He would play stickball with the children and his joyful aura earned him the nickname “Say Hey Kid.”
