Volkswagen Group’s internal battle over its turnaround plan comes to a head next week when CEO Oliver Blume tries to win supervisory board approval for a sweeping restructuring plan. If the plan is rejected, Blume may try to circumvent the board entirely by appealing directly to shareholders.
Much is at stake for the automaker, which owns the Audi, Porsche, Bentley and Skoda brands. The group is struggling to revive profits as it contends with U.S. tariffs, falling sales in China, costly overcapacity in Germany and intensifying competition from Asian rivals in Europe.
Blume has said VW is not able to finance its future business with its current low profitability. He aims to slash costs and lift margins to 9 percent. VW Group’s second-quarter margin was 4.2 percent.
Management, unions and Lower Saxony have each drawn up competing turnaround proposals.

Porsche CEO Michael Leiters has moved aggressively since taking charge by cutting 5,000 jobs, selling noncore businesses and narrowing the sports car maker’s focus. But on the most critical question investors want answered — what Porsche will actually sell in the years ahead — Leiters has yet to provide clarity.
Porsche is still on its summer shutdown, but Leiters is continuing to push ahead. In Mumbai, India, this week, he announced the sale of Porsche’s management and IT consulting subsidiary MHP to Tata Consultancy Services for an enterprise value of €320 million.
The deal transfers more than 4,500 employees to the Indian technology company and is part of a broader five-year strategic partnership between TCS and Porsche. The agreement is intended to preserve MHP’s role in Porsche’s digital transformation while allowing the automaker to focus on its core business.

#mywheels#tesla https://t.co/54C5J32co5
China has ordered a sweeping vehicle recall program for safety risks in emergency mechanical door handles inside electric vehicles, with Tesla alone ordered to recall 2.98 million vehicles.
The move also affects eight automakers in China, pushing the total number of recalled vehicles past 4 million.
The recall is part of broad efforts by regulators in China to address safety hazards posed by the innovative interior and exterior designs — including pop-out door handles, yoke-style steering wheels and screen-heavy interiors — that Tesla introduced and Chinese EV makers quickly imitated.
Tesla will recall vehicles starting Sept. 25, covering two China-built models — the Model 3 and Model Y — and two imported models — the Model S and Model X — according to a notice the State Administration of Market Regulation, China’s product safety regulator, posted on its website Aug. 21.

Zelfrijdende taxi's straks in Londen en in Munchen. Wanneer zullen ze Amsterdam aankondigen? Volgend jaar? Het jaar erop? No way dat het langer duurt dan dat.
Sir Alex Ferguson:
🗣"I lost nine finals with Aberdeen and Manchester United. Nine finals! Do you know what that does? The next morning, I was a better manager.
"You have to face defeat the right way. To be a winner, you must accept that losing is part of life, but it can be corrected the next day.
"To all young players, I say this: face defeat with strength and become a winner the next day. I also won 32 finals." [laughs]
"In fact, I remember every detail of the finals I lost more than the ones I won because they're part of my life. Losing is part of my life, and it's not easy because the expectation, not only for me and my family, but also for the players, their families and the supporters, is to win."
