@SERDAFIED@savanah2j@Underwood_szn Funnily enough, in Ireland we have the opposite problem. Football is seen as a working class sport and is underfunded by the political class who are more interested in rugby.
That's why Ireland has underperformed in the last 20 years despite doing relatively well in 90s
@SERDAFIED@savanah2j@Underwood_szn Well just insofar as I assume the preferred sport for a lot of them would be soccer. So if it can be made accessible to them, it couldn't hurt!
@HoosierGOAT@savanah2j@Underwood_szn And I saw a video of I think either Gronk or JJ Watt playing soccer and they didnt look like athletes either haha.
At the end of the day, I think most elite sport comes down to skill, which is developed through dedication through love of the game or motivation for money
@HoosierGOAT@savanah2j@Underwood_szn I don't see why Ronaldo couldn't have become just as good a 3 point shooter as Steph.
Messi is 5'7 but I guess he could have been a Bugsy Malone.
The US has great athletes, most of whom dont play soccer. But so does West Africa and they're all soccer nations, yet Messi is best
@HoosierGOAT@savanah2j@Underwood_szn Well I suppose they'd have height on their side which helps. And in Steph's case he probably has the kind of mental determination to practise relentlessly. But having said that, those 3 made it to the top of the most popular sport on earth.
@SERDAFIED@savanah2j@Underwood_szn With the US population, money and growing Latino community, I assume the US will win a world cup some day.
But they won't win it with a team of D1 American football players who couldn't make the NFL. And the US wont make friends insisting that they'd win "if they really tried" 😂
@SERDAFIED@savanah2j@Underwood_szn Because although it's become more of a focus in recent years (in detriment to to the sport imo), athletic power isnt a defining factor. The talent and understanding of the game is generally more important, and that's something that only comes with good coaching and good talent ID
@SERDAFIED@savanah2j@Underwood_szn Sure, there are probably some NFL players that could have been top soccer players. But I don't think the body types and types of athleticism generally in American football and basketball match up to what you see in elite soccer players.
@HoosierGOAT@savanah2j@Underwood_szn Americans are too conditioned by stats, not everything can be defined by combine numbers, otherwise Tom Brady wouldnt be the GOAT.
Usain Bolt couldn't make it as a soccer player, speed isn't everything
@SERDAFIED@savanah2j@Underwood_szn I think you need to look at how soccer talent is developed. The college route isnt working. Look at Europe, if youre not at a pro club by 18 (earlier really), you can forget about it. US needs to improve MLS drastically or else push its talented youngsters to Europe at 15 or 16
@SERDAFIED@savanah2j@Underwood_szn Spain produces great tennis players, the Balkan countries do great in water polo with tiny populations. Your 540k boys playing HS soccer is equal to the entire population of Cape Verde who almost gave Argentina a shock.
@savanah2j@Underwood_szn Also, what isn't mentioned enough in these debates is that the Tyreek Hill who started playing soccer at 4 isnt the same Tyreek Hill you know. He would have to be significantly smaller to be able to play a full 90 minutes, who's to say how his athleticism would cross over?
@Michael96451896@CarlosGarcs@MalcolmNance I would have interpreted "force level" to refer to peacetime -> coalition war -> unilateral war
You might be right that it refers to personnel in this instance. But I'm sure the treaty has to allow for Spain to restrict things in order to protect itself and retain sovereignty
