I can't stand like this infront of my children in the house, I have to get a house coat, how much more to whole world? Why? Why? 😢
It is getting too much, ejor. Nudity is not fashion.
Seeing how fragile my mom has become worries me. I never want to lose her, man.
And before “Twitter for Baba ni Jigi” ask if I’m not afraid to lose my dad. He passed away when I was three.
So, as you were.
I remember a foolish ex friend who claimed I spoke Ibibio too much…
And she’s even from Akwaibom oo😂😂, mkpo ke low self esteem..
I told her YES, Capital lettered..
Ibibio is my root, my heritage, my identity..
Right from Age 3 i understood ibibio, ‘cus my mom ensured I knew how to. Even while living in Lagos.
I could read the Edisana Nwed ke iko Efik so fluently at age 13.
Have you seen the way people look at us in awe when we speak ibibio? It’s such a magnificent language.
If i had my way, i would be typing only in Ibibio
Ubuakusen ye ndubi.
“ABEGISTAN”
(Murtala Mohammed Airport Is A Terror)
So a relative just flew into “Abegistan”, sorry, Nigeria this afternoon via Murtala Muhammed International Airport, and this is what he had to go through.
Customs officials outright refused to clear him unless he gave them money. He explained he had no cash, thinking that would end the conversation but no. They asked for a transfer instead. He said he had no internet access, and unbelievably, they brought out their own phone, connected him to Wi-Fi, and insisted he transfer ₦10,000 to two of them before they would let him pass.
That was just the beginning.
At the car park, someone in airport reflective gear approached his Uber and demanded ₦1,500 for a “ticket” before the car could move. Not wanting trouble, he paid.
Then at the exit barricade, another group stopped them and demanded the same “ticket” fee again. He explained he had already paid, but they told him he had paid “the wrong official” and threatened to clamp the car if he didn’t comply. With no real option, he paid another ₦1,500.
So within minutes of arriving in the country, before even stepping properly outside the airport system, he was extorted multiple times by different people, all operating openly, confidently, and without fear of consequences.
This isn’t just embarrassing, it’s damaging. First impressions matter, and for many visitors, this is their first real encounter with the country. What they meet is not hospitality, not order, not professionalism but organized harassment disguised as procedure.
It raises uncomfortable questions:
How can a system like this operate so brazenly?
Who is holding these people accountable?
And how long can this culture of coercion, normalized begging, and abuse of authority continue before it completely erodes trust in public institutions?
At some point, it stops being “just how things are” and starts becoming a serious national problem that affects reputation, investment, tourism, and the dignity of citizens themselves.
Because if the gateway into a country feels like a gauntlet, what does that say about everything beyond it?
