‘Your Honour, Please Save My House’: Dalmandi Resident’s Appeal as Demolition Continues
➠ A resident of Varanasi’s Dalmandi area has made an emotional appeal in court, claiming officials are threatening to demolish his house despite a stay order.
➠ Zaid Ahmed, a Dalmandi resident, said his mother is ill and pleaded with the judge to save his home, stating that protecting citizens’ rights also protects the Constitution.
➠ Dalmandi is undergoing a redevelopment project, under which several houses and shops are being demolished. Residents and activists claim that nearly 90% of the affected properties belong to Muslims.
➠ Locals alleged that demolition notices are being enforced aggressively, even in cases where legal relief has been granted.
➠ Officials have maintained that the redevelopment work is being carried out as per approved plans and legal procedures.
➠ The issue has sparked debate over redevelopment, displacement, and due process.
