Whenever I'm with him
Something inside starts to burning
And I'm filled with desire
Could it be the devil in me
Or is this the way love's supposed to be?

55 years ago, Aretha Franklin's "Rock Steady" was released as a single.

Bernard Purdie has said that during the recording Aretha’s lyric sheet slid off the piano. She told the band to keep going so she could pick it up. That stretch of music stayed in.

Happy birthday to Art Blakey, born on this day in 1919!

Drummer and bandleader of the Jazz Messengers, the long-running hard-bop group that turned young sidemen into leaders. His press rolls and explosive hi-hat defined the sound.

James Brown. "Please please please" 1964💥💥

Features Brown's cape routine, where he dramatically collapses and revives.
This routine famously helped him upstage the Rolling Stones at the 1964 T.A.M.I. Awards Show.
