AI agents in crypto are starting to need a few real things to scale properly:
- Reliable identity.
- Trustless payments for all the small, frequent stuff.
- Coordination across chains and tools.
Web2 was never built for any of that.
Payments are already on-chain. Identity and coordination layers are catching up new standards that let agents prove who they are and move intents around safely.
When real value's involved, accountability matters more than speed. Every action needs a full audit trail, price might compress info, but agents need the whole story.
Privacy and security are the tricky part. Full transparency helps catch mistakes, but nobody wants every move exposed. ZK proofs and private transactions are starting to hide details while still proving things happened correctly. Security-wise, agents holding keys to real money means one bad hack wipes everything, so better key management and recovery tools are becoming must-haves.
Web3 gave us ownership, decentralization, and the rails for trustless value transfer.
Now we're layering intelligent agents on top what some call Web4: a symbiotic web where AI and humans interact seamlessly, agents hold capital, make decisions, trade with each other, while we just set the direction.
Early versions are running today. The next wave is going to feel very different.
