I hope that this can encourage someone who is taking a road less travelled. It may seem daunting and you may want to quit going. This is the Courage Push you need to Keep Going.

We began the journey and I told him he needed to buy a drum of courage as the road was one less travelled, particularly within Africa.
The first attempt to gather data, he understood what I meant. Technician completely muddled it up because he didn't understand what he was doing

So for a journey that began in 2015, it is only in 2023 that we begin to see the tendrils of the labour in pioneering this frontier within Africa. Thus, to be selected based on the potential to drive this Frontier in Africa, I am super elated.

He was enquiring if I could collaborate on his PhD project, stating he was working in the area of Biospectroscopy and within the West of Africa in this domain, my work was all he found.

It was 2021, I was nursing my 3rd son and hope fluttered within.

If you are an active researcher, you'll very well understand the despair I was beginning to experience.

Just when I was about to hang the boots of hope, I received an email from a young man, many universities away from mine but still within Nigeria.

I slowly began to lose hope. I said to myself, maybe I was just being overly ambitious. Then I had my First Son, then the second son, then pandemic hit and just like that 5 years had passed since my PhD and it seemed I had nothing to show for it.

First disappointment was with a colleague who I had discussed a possible collaboration on return to the country. Cue in the hunt for the facility with the instrument, and the hassle of actually gaining access to the equipment. 😥😢

For all they knew, spectroscopy was only applicable to Physical and Material Science but, I knew different. In fact, I had done it in @LancsUniLEC, @LancasterUni and just needed to adapt, optimize parameters and replicate it in Nigeria.
