Almost as impressive as Martin Zubimendi’s brace!

🎯: From Sports Ministry to Commission; Future Implications for Sports in Nigeria
⏰: 8:00PM
🗓️: 4th November, 2024
Mark your calendars, set your alarms and ensure you’re a part of this.
Yesterday, at my residence in Onitsha I had the pleasure of welcoming the management team of Ijele Sports Club, led by the CEO, Barr. Ferdinand Afam Naza, along with Ezeokoli Blessing Chimezie.
Based in the vibrant city of Enugu, Ijele Sports Club is a pioneering multi-sports organisation with a mission to elevate sports in Nigeria using international standards.
I learnt that Ijele SC men’s football team is eagerly set to make its debut in the Nigerian National League (NNL) on November 30, 2024.
This milestone marks a significant achievement not only for the club but also for Nigerian youths who are passionate and dedicated to excelling in sports especially soccer.
I have always maintained that sports remains a veritable tool we can use to unite the country, fight poverty and create jobs for youth unemployment.
Nigeria is gifted with millions of very talented youths, who with the right investment in sports, will excel on the global stage.
I extend my full support to Ijele Sports Club and to sports in general. I encourage our youths to continue to develop their sporting skills, and together, we can foster a vibrant community that celebrates and uplifts the spirit of Nigerians in new Nigeria that is POssible. -PO
An easy rule of thumb for short distances is the length of a football pitch.
A standard pitch is around 100 meters long. 1000 meters (10 football pitches) make 1km.
A mile is 1.6km (16 football pitches), and a km is 0.6 miles. So to convert miles to km, multiply by 1.6, and to do the reverse, multiply by 0.6.
Assuming we are familiar with inches already (your smartphone is most likely between 5.5 and 6.5 inches tall), 12 inches make a foot and the distance between the floor and the ceiling of a typical Nigerian residential apartment is 9 feet.
1 yard = 3 feet. So to get yards from feet, divide by 3, and to do the reverse, multiply by 3.
For navigation, most of us already know East And West based on the perceived rising and setting of the sun.
North is the direction to your left when facing the East ('rising' sun) and the direction to your right when facing the West ('setting' sun)
Don't try to memorise them. They are grasped intuitively through culture, individual curiosity, or line of work.
If they seem too much for you, it's because they are. In that case, stick to landmarks and "E far but e no too far." They aren't the most optimal methods but they work to an acceptable degree provided you live all your life within Nigeria and your vocation does not require frequent interaction with foreigners.
