NEW PHOTOGRAPHY
Back in 2021, @tonyherrera and I had an idea of rethinking how photographic projects and images could be developed and tied to blockchains. We created Obscura, and we went out to the races to see if that was even possible. We found support amongst the NFT collectors of the time to offer a series of photographers worldwide to create their dream projects. We had the opportunity to work with the icons of the medium. From Alec Soth, Cristina de Middel, Jim Goldberg, Alessandra Sanguinetti, Todd Hido, and dozens more.
The proposition was simple. 1) Photography thrives when photographers have the support to go and spend the time to think and develop ideas. 2) With the new integration of NFTs into the ecosystem of photo making, can we create a space for these artists to produce their work, to first be seen and published as NFTs, granting the works a provenance to the "digital original," before it would circulate through the more traditional routes of distribution: prints, books, and exhibitions.
And... it f*** worked!
Today, several of those projects minted first as NFTs continue their paths through the "trad art" space. Today @tonyherrera spotted Tania Franco Klein's project, Subject Studies, commissioned by Obscura in 2022, on the walls of the MOMA, as part of the New Photography 2025 exhibition. Not only are these works part of the show, but they've also been added to the permanent collection of the museum.
Self Induced, the closing piece of the Extinct series on @objktcom curated by @obscuradao ...
will be shown in the official NFT Gallery at the Blockchain Futurist Conference,
@Futurist_conf in Miami Nov 5–6.
Thanks so much to @bitbaselart for the selection,
I wish I could be there to meet you and see it live!
I hope we get pictures of the installation! 🙏

Extinct X – Urban nightlife
Trying to figure out what to do at night is, at times, a tough decision, so we roam in search of inspiration, through city streets, trying to get a taste of how the other are enjoying themselves.
