@PilotPoli It's highly unlikely that experienced pilots would forget to set flaps, it's in the take off checklist. If flaps were set to zero (this has happened in a couple of US incidents), the plane would barely make it off the ground... Not as far as 600 feet.

@NewStatesman Interesting article, but Hunter Davies incorrectly states that United were relegated in 1975. It was, in fact , in 1974. 1975 saw United win the Second Division title.
