๐ข #WorldMaritimeDay news! NOC is is trialling the use of a fossil-free marine diesel to fuel the #RRSJamesCook and #RRSDiscovery.

That is the final @ukargo float deployed on #DY181 which marks also the end of science. Thanks to everyone on board of #RRSDiscovery for this very successful expedition exceeding every expectations. 10 years of NAC data are ready to get analysed #AtlantiS@SAMSoceannews@NOCnews
Scientists from NOC and @SAMSoceannews are onboard #RRSDiscovery for the #DY181 expedition, marking a decade of ongoing observations of a crucial part of the Atlantic Meridional Overturning Circulation (#AMOC).

Today was the final big mooring. At some stage in the past 2 years, it became tangled in a fishing line. The technicians and deck crew did an amazing job at recovering the mooring instruments and the plastic long line!

We are moving west. Today we successfully turned around an ADCP mooring west of Rockall Bank and perform communication test with a telemetry BPR from Sonardyne which we plan to deploy later in the Iceland basin. #DY181#RRSDiscovery#AtlantiS@SAMSoceannews@NOCnews @uk_osnap
It might all be over for the #RoyalSocietyAtlantis event, but work continues on #DY181 expedition, with water sampling and recovery of moorings, providing us with scientific data critical to understanding the changing ocean #summerscience
CTDs, moorings and a bit of scenery! We're well underway with our science on this expedition #DY181
CTDs are lowered vertically through the water column, providing real-time observations. Remotely closable Niskin bottles on the array allow us to sample water from any depth.
And so it begins! Excited to be joining an expedition onboard the RRS Discovery for nearly a month at sea along the Ellet Array! Of course, I'll try post updates as we go #DY181#ElletArray

#WorldOceanDay
Well that's not a night I'll forget easily. Saw a band called Green Haze (Green Day tribute) only to be greeted by a green haze of the space weather kind straight after! Drove to St Catherine's Hill in Winchester to avoid as much light pollution.

It's poster time! Come find me at board X5.228 to learn about a new method for decomposing ocean temperature change into excess (anthropogenic) and redistributed
#EGU24@EuroGeosciences
I'm at the @EuroGeosciences general assembly in Vienna this week, keeping up to date with the latest developments in ocean science. I'm also presenting my research with @NOCnews, in the AM poster session on Wednesday. Come find me in Hall X5! Board X5.228.
"Oceanography, that's just fish isn't it?" ๐๐คฆโโ๏ธ
That's the one I get the most. Yet oceanography is a whole lot more! In fact I am a physical oceanographer, which means I look at ocean physics including things like the temperature, salinity and the currents that move water around.
