Update: Local jurisdictions are in communication with County OES as a HazMat team is dispatched to the I-5 corridor for air sampling along the coast. EPA and Coast Guard are also involved. Will provide updates as needed. @CityofOceanside@OceansidePD
We have received numerous calls about a strong burning/chemical odor. We’ve evaluated the city and are in contact with County Health. The cause is still under investigation, but there is no immediate life hazard at this time. @CityofOceanside@OceansidePD
Update: Power lines near Pablo Tac Elementary are de-energized, but Hacienda Dr is still closed. OPD is assisting with walking students to a new pick-up spot. Parents, please contact the school for details. Avoid the area if possible.

Pier fire update: Crews worked through the night and will continue to work today. The unstable restaurant structure means crews can’t attack the fire from inside, so the fight will continue from the exterior.
We have made good progress on the pier fire. We will be working into the dark to complete extinguishment and to ensure that the fire does not rekindle. The fire has been contained to the end of the pier.
The Oceanside Fire Department is currently engaged in fighting a fire on the Oceanside Pier. We are asking all citizens to please stay away from the immediate area.

When thunder roars, go indoors! Lightning has been spotted within 10 miles of Oceanside. Lifeguards are actively clearing Oceanside beaches. We would like to remind everyone to find appropriate shelter as lightning storms approach.
