WHY I WRITE ABOUT THIS WAR 🇺🇦
I'm Mykhailo, a former sergeant of Ukraine's 54th Separate Mechanized Brigade. In 2015–2016 I served in artillery reconnaissance, defending my country from Russia.
In 2016 a drunk driver hit me. More than 20 fractures, almost five years in bed. Today I live in Manitoba, Canada, with my wife and three kids, and I use a wheelchair.
I can't do a regular job anymore. But I can still do what I did in the army: watch the front, read the maps, and tell people what is really happening.
That's what this account is for. Daily news from Ukraine, Russia and Washington, with sources, in plain words.

Thank you for reading, supporting my family, and standing with Ukraine. 🇺🇦🇨🇦
In Ukraine 🇺🇦, every place that Russia 🇷🇺 occupied was systematically marked by: castration, gang-rape, forced nudity & child sexual abuse. Victims range from 14 months to 82 years old.
Sexual violence can constitute a warcrime & an element of genocide.

Ekaterina Mizulina, head of Russia’s Safe Internet League and a prominent pro-Kremlin activist, has proposed closing school bathrooms.
Her solution? Put a privacy screen and a bucket in every classroom.
Welcome to Putin’s Russia, where even a proper toilet is becoming a luxury.
“Hello, who is this?”
“Krasnov? Is that you? This is the KGB.”
Heavy breathing into the phone.
“Hello. This is the KGB. Why are you silent?”
“I’m not silent.”
“Well, then answer properly when speaking to a superior officer.”
“Yes, sir.”
“That’s more like it. Anyway, Daddy orders you to slow down Starlink in Ukraine.”
“Oh! I can’t do that! I’ve got the Pentagon, Congress!”
“What do you mean, ‘I can’t’? Do you want us to publish that photograph of you sitting on a potty in kindergarten?”
“No! Anything but that! Just don’t publish my photograph of me sitting on a potty in kindergarten! All of MAGA will turn their backs on me!”
“Then slow it down!”
“Okay.”
“Not ‘okay,’ but ‘yes, sir,’ you asshole.”
“Yes, sir, Comrade Major. And what should I tell Elon?”
“Tell Musk it’s ‘technical difficulties.’ Now hang up.”
That great fool in the red MAGA cap has made the impossible possible.
Former Republican President George W. Bush is appearing at a rally for Democrats in Texas.
To be more precise, the news should be reported as follows:
In the 2026 Texas U.S. Senate race, the brother and daughter of former Republican President George W. Bush have publicly endorsed Democratic candidate James Talarico, while the former president himself has not publicly endorsed the candidate.
This is indeed a remarkable example of cross-party political support. However, it would be inaccurate to conclude from this that George W. Bush himself has switched sides or joined the Democratic Party.
The situation around Dobropillia is extremely difficult, but the city is not encircled.
Russia claims it has surrounded the city, but ISW has found no evidence to support that claim. According to DeepState's October 26 assessment, Russian forces have approached from the south and east, while a threat is also emerging from the west.
There are reports of small Russian assault groups infiltrating the city.
The intensity of the fighting is reminiscent of the darkest days of the Battle of Bakhmut. Our defenders are fighting at the very limits of human endurance.
Dobropillia is holding. But the price of this defense is enormous. 🇺🇦

One day, an old woman carrying a scythe appeared at the Kremlin. She knocked on the door. A voice came from behind it:
“Who’s there?”
“It’s me, Death,” the old woman replied. “I’ve brought a summons to Heaven for the little bald boy.”
Silence.
The old woman waited three days before knocking again.
“Who’s there?” asked the same voice.
“It’s me, Death,” she patiently repeated. “I’ve brought a summons to Heaven for the little bald boy.”
Silence again. This time for an entire week.
Seven days later, the old woman’s patience was wearing thin. She knocked harder and louder.
“Who’s there?” asked the now thoroughly irritating voice.
“Immortality,” the cunning old woman announced. “I’ve brought your senile old fool a decree granting him another 150 years in power.”
“Go back to the cemetery, you old hag!” the voice suddenly snapped from behind the door. “I can see your scythe through the crack! Besides, my scientists have already promised me another 150 years. Their word is far more reliable. I’ve spent the entire national treasury on immortality!”
And so, “Russian science” showed Death the door without even letting her inside.
Once again, it proved that Russian scientists can accomplish absolutely anything — and some things without even getting out of their depth. A century and a half of youth? No problem. Immortality according to Koschei the Deathless’s secret recipe? Coming right up.
All they need is rivers of money and mountains of blind faith. And there will always be customers. Donkeys and sultans alike.

FORMER SENATE REPUBLICAN LEADER CALLS TRUMP “MORALLY BANKRUPT” OVER HIS DEAL WITH PUTIN
Donald Trump's attempts to end the war in Ukraine by appeasing Russian President Vladimir Putin and restricting assistance to Kyiv are “doomed to fail,” according to veteran Republican Senator Mitch McConnell, who delivered a blistering criticism of the American president in an opinion column for The Wall Street Journal.
McConnell sharply condemned Trump's claim that Russia was “behaving quite well toward Ukraine.” The president made the remark in response to concerns that Moscow was violating the so-called energy ceasefire he had announced. McConnell described Trump's statement as “factually incorrect, strategically naive, and morally bankrupt.”
“His obsequious appeasement of Russia, offering the aggressor sanctions relief as a reward, will not persuade Mr. Putin to stop,” the senator argued. He warned that history demonstrates how such concessions embolden the Russian autocrat, who interprets them as signs of weakness rather than gestures of goodwill.
McConnell also warned against threatening to suspend American security assistance, intelligence sharing, or Ukraine's access to critical satellite communications systems. Such measures, he argued, would not weaken Ukraine's determination to defend itself but could allow Putin to achieve battlefield advances that Russian forces have so far failed to secure.
Instead of bringing the war to an end, these decisions could prolong it.
The Republican senator, who chairs the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Defense, also criticized Trump's agreement with Putin to import hundreds of thousands of tons of Russian diesel fuel into the United States.
“When limited supplies of Russian fuel change hands, it will do little to lower prices at the pump,” McConnell argued, pointing to diesel prices that reportedly remain above $6 per gallon on average in the United States.
He emphasized that allowing Russia to advance deeper into Ukrainian territory and expand its influence over Ukraine and Europe would inflict lasting damage on American strategic interests.
“A Russian victory would have far more serious consequences for our economic and national security and our global dominance than temporarily high diesel prices,” McConnell warned.
The senator also reminded Americans that the Kremlin has conducted cyberattacks against US government agencies and assisted Iran in attacks targeting American facilities in the Middle East. He stressed that Putin remains closely aligned with Chinese President Xi Jinping, who will continue exploiting that partnership to weaken both the United States and Europe.
McConnell argued that Europe's security is directly connected to America's economic prosperity and geopolitical influence. Europe remains the United States' largest trading partner and a major engine of American economic growth.
An outcome that makes it easier for Russia to threaten European countries would therefore undermine America's own national interests.
For McConnell, the central issue is not simply Ukraine's survival but the broader consequences of rewarding Russian aggression. Concessions that strengthen Putin today could create far greater security and economic costs for the United States tomorrow.
His warning represents a sharp rebuke from one of the Republican Party's most experienced foreign-policy figures, challenging Trump's approach to Moscow and the assumption that accommodation with Putin can produce a lasting peace.
🇨🇳🇨🇳🇨🇳While Wall Street debates whether the artificial intelligence boom is becoming a dangerous financial bubble, China is already experiencing a brutal market correction. In less than four months, the STAR 50 index, which includes leading Chinese technology and semiconductor companies, has reportedly collapsed by 40%, wiping out approximately $480 billion in market value, according to Reuters.
For years, Beijing promoted technological independence as the foundation of China's economic future. Artificial intelligence, robotics, and semiconductor manufacturing became symbols of national ambition. Investors poured billions into companies promising to challenge American technological dominance. Now, many of those investments are suffering devastating losses.
The broader Chinese market has also been hit. The CSI 300 index has reportedly fallen approximately 20% from its June peak, compared with a decline of just 6% in America's Nasdaq from its recent record. What began as a technological revolution gradually turned into a speculative frenzy, fueled by expectations that almost every company associated with AI would become enormously profitable.
According to Goldman Sachs, AI-related stocks accounted for 42% of the combined capitalization of Chinese equities traded in mainland China and Hong Kong, while generating an extraordinary 57% of trading activity. Such concentration made the market particularly vulnerable when investor enthusiasm began to fade.
The damage among individual companies has been staggering. Robotics manufacturer Unitree has reportedly lost half its value since August, despite enormous demand for its shares during its offering. Semiconductor developers MetaX and Moore Threads, whose shares initially soared by hundreds of percent, have also seen their valuations cut in half. Chipmaker CXMT has lost more than a quarter of its capitalization in a month, while optical technology companies Zhongji Innolight and Eoptolink have fallen approximately 60% from their summer peaks.
Reuters identifies several factors behind the collapse: excessive valuations, uncertainty about future demand for AI infrastructure, and concerns over potential American restrictions on Chinese equipment in data centers. Investors are also beginning to question whether massive spending on artificial intelligence will generate profits sufficient to justify current valuations.
The consequences extend beyond financial markets. Ordinary Chinese investors are losing savings, technology companies face increasing difficulties raising capital, and planned stock market listings could be postponed or canceled. Hong Hao, chief investment officer at Lotus Asset Management, warns that the downturn may prevent numerous companies from going public.
There is another uncomfortable reality. Chinese manufacturers have repeatedly demonstrated their ability to produce enormous quantities of goods, only to become trapped in destructive price wars. Electric vehicles, solar panels, and other industries have already experienced this pressure. Semiconductor and AI hardware manufacturers may eventually face similar competition, squeezing profits even as production expands.
Some analysts at Goldman Sachs and BNP Paribas believe the selloff could create attractive buying opportunities. Others remain cautious, expecting further declines before valuations stabilize.
But the most important lesson extends far beyond China. Artificial intelligence is a genuine technological revolution, yet that does not mean every AI company deserves an astronomical valuation. Revolutionary technology and speculative financial bubbles can exist simultaneously.
America should pay attention. Wall Street has invested enormous expectations in artificial intelligence, and investors increasingly assume that today's extraordinary growth will continue indefinitely. China's experience demonstrates how quickly confidence can disappear when financial expectations collide with economic reality.
Can you imagine? There was once a time when the United States and Europe had politicians with common sense. Today, they are practically an extinct species.
“The main reason not to trust the Russians, explained by Harry Truman.”
“Do you trust the Russians?”
“No. Period.”
“Why?”
“Because they broke every agreement they ever made with me.”
Bolsonaro in Florida.
The former Brazilian presidential candidate has fled the country. Trump made the wrong choice and is now saving “his son of a bitch.”
No different from Putin, Yanukovych, or Assad. Twin regimes.
There is always a choice in life.
Lately, Donald Trump has been behaving as though he has confused the White House with the reality show Survivor. One minute he's proposing to buy Greenland, the next he's explaining how he could end, in a single day, a war that seems to exist entirely in his own imagination.
Lawyers are already joking that he has two possible destinations: either a courtroom or a psychiatric clinic, where they'll sit him down on a comfortable couch and prescribe a course of “reality therapy” — one hour a day without Twitter, plus mandatory news broadcasts from sources other than Fox News.
Donald, however, seems to have chosen a third option: launching a nationwide tour under the slogan “They're Going to Lock Me Up — So You'd Better Vote!” and turning a potential conviction into yet another season of his reality show.
So grab your popcorn. Either prison jumpsuits will become the Republican Party's new dress code, or a psychiatric hospital will unveil a special room with golden curtains and a plaque reading:
“THE GREATEST HOSPITAL ROOM IN THE HISTORY OF HOSPITAL ROOMS.”
It has already become clear to me that Musk is playing into Russia's hands and will do whatever Putin wants to harm our Ukraine.
⚡ Putin to American businessman and SpaceX owner Elon Musk: “In orbit, it is important not to interfere with one another.”
The Russian dictator claims that Moscow is “in close contact with American partners, including Mr. Musk.”
Last Sunday, Musk expressed concern that the Russians might attempt to “shoot Starlink satellites out of the sky.”
He cited this very threat as the reason for reducing Starlink speeds for Ukraine's Defense Forces.
Musk apparently believes that, in the fourth year of Russia's full-scale war against Ukraine, technology that has been used throughout the conflict has suddenly become a “legitimate military target” for the Russians.
Earlier, the Russian satellite KOSMOS-2612 approached the American-Finnish satellite ICEYE-X36 in orbit, coming dangerously close to it.
The Russians may have been attempting to force the operator of ICEYE-X36 to adjust the satellite's trajectory. Such maneuvers consume fuel and shorten a satellite's operational lifespan.
Putin is not preparing for peace. He is waiting for America's elections to change everything.
I have just published a new article on Substack examining the Kremlin's possible strategy for 2027, its calculations regarding Trump's political future, the role of China and Iran, and Moscow's attempts to exploit divisions between America and Europe.
As a Ukrainian war veteran who fought against Russian aggression, I know that the consequences of these political calculations are measured not only in money and territory, but in human lives.
This is my analysis of what Putin may be planning next — and why the West cannot afford to underestimate him.
