I did a back of the envelope calculation for discussion purposes.

See my analysis below.

Assumptions: NYPD typically sends 4 officers for out-of-town protective details, working 12-hour shifts (2 on/2 off) around the clock, for a 10–14 day trip to Syria and Lebanon.

Adding overtime ($1,400/officer/day), airfare ($2,500/officer RT), hotel ($300/officer/night), meals ($120/officer/day), and a security car rental ($250/day), plus $3,000 contingency:

10 days: OT $56,000 + airfare $10,000 + hotel $12,000 + meals $4,800 + car $2,500 + contingency $3,000 = $88,300

14 days: OT $78,400 + airfare $10,000 + hotel $16,800 + meals $6,720 + car $3,500 + contingency $3,000 = $118,420

Estimated range: $88,300–$118,420 for a trip to Syria and Lebanon, both State Department “Do Not Travel” zones, that City Hall itself says is “not official city business.”

Notably, this doesn’t even include hazard pay, which isn’t standard NYPD practice but could reasonably apply given the risk level of these destinations.

That’s roughly 34–46% of Mayor @ZohranKMamdani’s $258,750 salary.
