My team forced me to initiate an out-of-office message. I was hesitant at first, but boy did I need it!
It’s easy to understand why many leaders – and especially founders – are often in a near-constant state of anxiety and burnout.
After 14 years of @reachahand and almost a year of @SautiPlusMedia, I'm here to remind you that delegation and setting boundaries are a leader’s superpower.
One of our biggest flaws as founders and leaders is the inability to surrender control, but you can’t do and be everything for your organisation/team.
Delegation is key, and this begins with finding the right people for the job. One of a leader's most valuable instincts has to be identifying the right talent. This is much easier said than done, and can be a very messy and costly experience, but it's key to giving you the peace of mind to focus on your core tasks.
Find the right people, give them the freedom and resources to succeed, and then delegate the relevant tasks while offering guidance and observing from a safe distance.
Once this is done, set boundaries for yourself. Your people will come to you to solve problems that they are very capable of solving themselves with a little creative thinking. Don’t get sucked into those. Allow your people to stumble and fall and learn from their mistakes.
Delegate and set boundaries: A necessary formula for leaders.
