@lilbrudder2@DojasFart@Kash_art_Stash you’ve completely changed the argument. “ai has no beneficial uses” and “ai is too dangerous to be widely accessible” are two entirely different claims. one is about utility, the other is about safety. concerns about the latter don’t disprove the former. not even remotely.
@lilbrudder2@DojasFart@Kash_art_Stash openai’s o1 cost $15/m input tokens and $60/m output in 2024. today, gpt-6 luna costs $0.10/m input and $0.50/m output. that’s 150x and 120x cheaper, respectively, for a far more capable model. and you’re arguing people will be priced out? its only gonna get cheaper
@lilbrudder2@DojasFart@Kash_art_Stash yes, and that’s exactly my point. the same technology can produce garbage and do genuinely valuable work. you asked whether ai has beneficial uses, and i gave you examples. pointing out that some people use it to make slop doesn’t refute a single one of them.
@Kash_art_Stash@lilbrudder2@DojasFart ram, yes they do use a lot of memory.
but the water argument is a complete fad. the amount of water required to grow one almond is approx 5k ai queries.
secondly, almost all data centers constructed nowadays are “closed loop” i.e they recycle the water.
@lilbrudder2@DojasFart@Kash_art_Stash and disliking the people behind a technology doesn’t somehow invalidate its benefits. that’s not an argument against ai.
sam altman, etc are horrible human beings.
@lilbrudder2@DojasFart@Kash_art_Stash also, you’re conflating AI with chatgpt subscriptions. nobody needs to pay $20/month to benefit from AI-powered flood warnings, weather forecasts, accessibility tools, or scientific discoveries. Much of this research is publicly funded or freely accessible.
@lilbrudder2@DojasFart@Kash_art_Stash We had transportation before airplanes. We had communication before the internet.
The point of a technology isn't necessarily to invent an ENTIRELY new activity. It's to make previously impossible things possible, or existing things dramatically faster, cheaper, or accessible.
@Grendafox Coding is objective. Either your code works or it doesn’t.
Art is subjective. A million viewers could interpret it in a million different ways
@summerxlloyd@AverageKitFan@pixieefaee@KreekCraft When you have a magical productivity tool which is 10x as efficient, 10x cheaper, and produces a lot higher quality code, why would you not use it?
