PlayStation was one of the biggest parts of my childhood. I had the original PlayStation, PS2, PS3, PS4 and PS5 I bought nearly two years ago. I can't even think of how many hours I spent on games like Crash Bandicoot, Spyro, Burnout, Cel Damage, the V8 Supercars games, inFamous, Jak and Daxter and so on.
This announcement is the biggest punch to the gut. This isn't the PlayStation I grew up with as a child, the PlayStation I once loved. The discontinuation of physical games is a decision that I cannot support.
I have no issue buying digital copies of games, but not if I'm forced into buying digital copies. If a game was only released digitally, such as many indie titles or smaller downloads back in the PS3/PS4 era, that's one thing—I'd happily support those creators. But when Sony makes the conscious decision to kill physical releases entirely for major titles, it crosses a line. Physical games gave me a real sense of ownership. I could lend them to friends, trade them in, collect them on my shelf as trophies of my childhood memories, and know they'd still be there even if my account got hacked or the service went down.
This shift feels like it's all about control and recurring revenue for Sony—locking us into their ecosystem, pushing subscriptions like PS Plus, and making sure we never truly "own" anything again. What happens to preservation? To game history? I've seen too many delisted titles vanish from digital stores over the years. Physical discs don't disappear with a server update or a licensing dispute.
PlayStation used to stand for innovation, fun, and respecting its fans. Now it just feels like another corporate machine chasing the next quarterly profit. If this is the future, count me out. I'll stick with my existing library or dust off the older consoles when I want that nostalgia hit.
Sony, if you're listening: Bring back the option for physical media. Don't alienate the very fans who built this brand from the ground up. Otherwise, the PS5 will be my last PlayStation console.
@ObsidianFilmsOf@GTA6Intel Rockstar also seems to have confirmed this in an email response, fingers crossed as I'd happily wait an extra month or so to get it physically
Rockstar Support confirmed that GTA 6 physical disc copies will be available in the months following launch.
“You will be able to acquire a physical copy during the following months.”
The current physical pre-orders are for the digital code-in-box version.
@ObsidianFilmsOf@GTA6Intel Apparently they're gonna release a real physical copy as early as December so maybe I can just cancel my digital pre-order and wait an extra month or so to get the disc version
A disc version of GTA 6 will reportedly be coming in December, according to the same insider who initially claimed it wouldn't have a full physical release at launch.

I've noticed a lot of these as well. There's gotta be hundreds of these posts, maybe thousands. The content in these posts are beyond fucked. 100% has to be a paedophile ring. Gonna be making a report about these posts soon. I urge others to do the same, either on X or via other parties.
