Galileo Galilei, Sidereus Nuncius, illustration of the Pleiades star cluster, 1610. This groundbreaking astronomical treatise was the first to depict celestial objects as observed through a telescope.

The illustration shown here captures the Pleiades star cluster, a group of stars situated in the Taurus constellation. Prior to Galileo's observations, the Pleiades were known only as a small cluster visible to the naked eye, but with his newly constructed telescope, Galileo identified far more stars within the cluster than had ever been seen before.
