Irish werewolves, known as faoladh or conriocht, were complex figures, unlike the typical European monsters.

Legends primarily center on the people of Ossory, who were either cursed to transform into wolves for seven years or were a lineage of shapeshifting warriors descending from the mythological figure Laignech Fáelad. 

Instead of being purely evil, many accounts portray them as guardians and protectors of children, wounded men, and lost people. They retained human intelligence and could even be hired by kings for their fierceness in battle.
