If you encounter a horse and rider using the road, please:
๐ดSlow down
๐ดBe prepared to stop
๐ดStay well back
๐ดNever rev your engine
๐ดNever use your horn
๐ดPass slow and wide if itโs safe, at no more than 15mph
Thank you to everyone who already does - it really is appreciated!
@Junkmai25545721@roadsafety@polscotrpu @BritishHorse Avoiding roads is not always possible. Getting to Bridleways (the few that remain) sometimes demands the use of roads. Horses and traffic can exist happily together, with just a little care by all road users.
@Junkmai25545721@roadsafety@polscotrpu @BritishHorse Keeping horses confined to paddocks can be detrimental to their welfare and well being. Horses require emotional, mental and physical stimuli, just as humans do. The case to be made is for better understanding by other road users of horse psychology and behaviours.
@Junkmai25545721@roadsafety@polscotrpu @BritishHorse A large part depends on the breed of horse. Thoroughbreds are generally a bit spooky, cobs not so much. It also depends on the horses previous exposure to and experience with traffic. Horses also pick up on the rider. If the rider is nervous the horse can become nervous.
