Moses Simon, Alex Iwobi, Ademola Lookman and our key attacking players did not step up for the penalties, and it’s important we understand why.
They were under immense pressure, largely from previous misses and the heavy criticism that followed. This is exactly why we need to tone down the constant attacks on our players.
Yes, the penalty was poor and clearly unconvincing, no one is denying that. But when players are repeatedly dragged, abused and blamed, confidence drops. And when confidence drops, you won’t find many willing to take bold responsibility in big moments. If we continue this way, we will keep creating an environment where the boys are more scared than courageous.
We can understand the pain and frustration but please let’s criticize cautiously 🙏🏽
