2026 MISS WORLD PAGEANT: LET US SUPPORT TAMUNOSOYE FOR THE CROWN

As the grand finale of the 2026 Miss World Pageant takes place this evening, 5th September 2026, in Nha Trang, Vietnam, I call on all sons and daughters of Bayelsa State, the Ijaw Nation, and indeed Nigerians at home and in the diaspora, to unite in support of our worthy representative, Tamunosoye Karibi George.

Soye, who emerged as Miss World Nigeria, carries not only the hopes and aspirations of Bayelsa State, but also the pride and spirit of the entire Nigerian nation onto the global stage.

Having interacted personally with this exceptional young woman and followed her inspiring journey throughout this prestigious competition, one thing stands out clearly: Tamunosoye represents the very best of Nigeria: grace, intelligence, confidence and character. Every time she speaks, she reflects the dignity, brilliance and warmth of our people with remarkable poise.

I commend the tremendous support she has received thus far across various platforms. However, as the competition reaches its defining moment, I urge our people everywhere to intensify their support and vote massively for Tamunosoye. This goes beyond a beauty pageant; it is a moment of national pride and collective identity. Let us come together and bring the crown home to Nigeria.

As a government committed to promoting tourism, youth development and excellence, we are immensely proud of Tamunosoye as she continues to grace the world stage with elegance, confidence and poise. She has already made Bayelsa and Nigeria proud.

Today, I performed the inauguration of newly constituted State and Local Government Advisory Councils for regular consultations and guidance on the development of our great State of Bayelsa.

As a government, we have raised men and women of values and integrity who have served the state in different capacities to support our development efforts.

This is timely for the general direction of the state to support development plans and the strategic growth of Bayelsa State across various sectors in the state.

Today, I presided over the 195th session of the State Executive Council and in my usual way, appreciated our very valued people of Bayelsa State for standing firmly with the Government of Assured Prosperity.

Again, I joined a team of photographers working in the Government House, Yenagoa to observe the 2026 World Photography Day celebrated every 19th of August, each year.

Indeed, photography has become a part of our daily life, particularly for those of us in the public service.

Let me congratulate you all on the celebration, and I salute your industry, creativity, and excellent service in promoting and showcasing the activities and programmes of my administration.

This afternoon in my country home, Sampou, Kolokuma/Opokuma Local Government Area, I received political and traditional leaders of Ebedebiri Federated Community who came to appreciate me for the nomination and inauguration of their son, Dr. Peter Pereotubo Akpe, as the Deputy Governor of Bayelsa State.

While my choice of Dr. Akpe, was divine and orchestrated by God, his deep administrative experience, political loyalty and leadership capacity were also major considerations.

I am happy that Dr. Akpe, has quickly asserted himself in the office of the Deputy Governor and as a team player, he has continued to discharge his duties in the service of our state.

I wish to thank the delegation for the visit and assure that the Government of Assured Prosperity will continue to deliver on our mandate to the people. Nua! Umbana!

Today in Lagos, I joined my dear brother, the Honourable Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Dr. Adegboyega Oyetola, for the 2nd Quarter 2026 Citizens/Stakeholders’ Engagement with a theme: “From policy to action: Mobilising Sub-National Governments for Effective Implementation of Nigeria’s National Policy on Marine and Blue Economy.”

First, let me appreciate Mr. President, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, for the initiative to create this ministry that has the capacity and spirit to turn around the economic fortunes of the country.

The pioneering mark of Bayelsa State in the establishment of a State Ministry of Marine and Blue Economy, is not only strategic, but it conforms with the drive of my Government of Assured Prosperity to diversify our economy away from oil and gas to tapping our resources in the ocean and rivers across the three senatorial districts of the State.

My attendance at the event was to open further engagement with key stakeholders and interact with industry players with a view to harnessing the vast economic opportunities in the maritime sector and also share our implementation model and experience with the sub-national governments.

In my keynote address titled, “Sub-National Leadership In Advancing Nigeria’s Marine And Blue Economy: The Bayelsa Experience And Pathways For Coastal State Development”, I made it clear that our administration is opening Bayelsa to responsible private capital in aquaculture, modern boat building, cold chain logistics, marine transport, and sustainable coastal tourism.

We have now become a national model for how to institutionalise and mainstream the Blue Economy at the sub-national level through enabling legislation and an operational model.

As expected from the various states, we are in the process of enacting the Bayelsa State Blue Economy Law that will align with the national policy set by the Federal Government to drive the marine and blue economy.

In Bayelsa State, we are creating an investment climate with the construction of strategic roads to attract the private sector particularly in the development of our flagship maritime project, the Agge Deep seaport in Ekeremor Local Government Area of the State.

For Bayelsa, Agge will not merely be hosting a seaport but it will be a gateway vision for regional trade, logistics, industrial development, fisheries exports and wider integration within the Gulf of Guinea.

We will continue to work closely with the Federal Government in unlocking our untapped maritime promise in the journey to industrialisation and job creation in the state.

Today, I convened an enlarged stakeholders’ meeting of the Ijaw Youth Council (IYC) in Yenagoa to reaffirm our collective commitment to peace, unity, and the progress of the Ijaw nation.

As we prepare for the 2026 IYC elective convention, it is important that we place the interest of our people above personal ambitions and avoid every tendency that could lead to division. We must continue to build bridges, not walls.

I urged all IYC leaders and stakeholders to embrace love, reconciliation, and mutual respect, reminding all that a united Ijaw nation is stronger, more influential, and better positioned to pursue our collective aspiration as a people.

I was particularly pleased to facilitate the reconciliation between Jonathan Lokpobiri and Theophilus Alaye. Their decision to embrace peace and put the past behind them is a commendable step that should inspire every Ijaw son and daughter to choose dialogue over discord.

The Ijaw nation can only attain greater heights when we stand together with one voice and one purpose.

Let us continue to promote unity, and preserve the legacy of the IYC, for peace, stability, and development of our people.

Today, 4th of June, remains a special day in my life, a blessed day of my birth. In line with my personal principles, I have never been known for a loud celebration and I do not encourage anyone to do otherwise on my behalf.

Long before I became the governor, I had kept my birthday very private and it has remained so, since I came into office. It is usually a day of deep reflection, a time to commune with my creator in prayer.

I humbly thank you all for the good wishes and my humble request is for you to join me in prayers for sound health, wisdom, joy in my family and the State.

Let me assure our people that I remain committed to the service and progress of our dear State. Our Government of Assured Prosperity is bequeathing to our people enduring legacies that will stand the threshold of history. Thank you for the love.

Today, we again gathered in Ayamasa community in Ekeremor Local Government Area of the State for the 13th year remembrance of our late mother, Madam Rose Diri.

Every 15th of May brings us fond memories of our dear mother, a virtuous woman who made a great impact on the children and the entire family.

It is indeed true that our late mother had a special place in our hearts for the love she showered on us.

We will continue to celebrate her legacy of good parenting. Let me appreciate all our guests who came to join us in honouring our mother. Thank you all for coming!

Today, I had the honour of receiving my Brother-Governor of Taraba State, H.E. Agbu Kefas, alongside his longtime friend, High Chief Government Oweizide Ekpemupolo (Tompolo) and other respected leaders and stakeholders at Government House, Yenagoa.

This visit is a strong reminder that beyond politics and differing perspectives, we remain bound by a shared heritage, identity, and deep friendship as a people.

I do appreciate the collaboration between Bayelsa and Taraba states in the collective interest of our people.

I truly welcome this show of solidarity and brotherhood. It is through unity, mutual respect, and continuous engagement that we can preserve our values, strengthen our voice, and secure a better future for our people.

Yesterday, I received an African daughter, the Mayor of Banjul, capital city of The Gambia, Hon. Rohey Malick Lowe, who is here to identify with our progress and development.

Our discussions centred on a cause I hold very dear: empowering women, promoting gender equality, and advancing social justice across our society.

I deeply appreciate her kind words and acknowledgment of our administration’s efforts in creating opportunities for women to thrive and contribute meaningfully to governance.

As I have always maintained, when women are empowered, the entire nation is empowered. Our commitment in Bayelsa State remains firm: to build an inclusive system where women are not just participants, but key drivers of development and progress.

I commend Mayor Lowe for her courage, leadership, and advocacy on the global stage, and I look forward to strengthening collaborations that will further elevate the role of African women in leadership.

While I have received her invitation to attend an upcoming women-focused programme in Banjul, we must strive towards a strong partnership to break barriers, eliminate intimidation in politics, and create a society where every woman has the platform to rise and succeed.

Today, I joined family, friends, and well-wishers in Warri for the solemnisation of the holy matrimony between Miss Olayemi Pinnick and Mr. Oduwa Ashley Bazuaye at the First Baptist Church.

Olayemi is the daughter of my dear brother and former President of the Nigeria Football Federation, Amaju Melvin Pinnick. It was indeed a moment of joy and fulfilment to witness this beautiful union of love.

The occasion brought together distinguished leaders and personalities, including my brother-governors, the Governor of Delta State, Sheriff Oborevwori, the Governor of Oyo State, Seyi Makinde, National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, former Governor of Abia State, Okezie Ikpeazu, former Deputy Governor of Edo State, Philip Shaibu, and current NFF President, Ibrahim Gusau, among other eminent Nigerians.

As Chairman of the reception, I reminded the couple that marriage is a lifelong institution, and one that no one ever graduates from. Every union is unique, and the true guide is the voice of love between both partners.

Once again, I congratulate the couple and pray that their home will be filled with peace, understanding, and enduring love. May their union be blessed and fruitful.

Today, 10th April, 2026, will remain in the history book of Bayelsa State for a long time as we received our dear President, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, for a one-day state visit.

It was a great honour to have Mr. President inaugurate four Legacy Projects of the Government of Assured Prosperity- the 2.9km New Yenagoa City Road One linking the Airport Road, the historic 630-metre Angiama-Oporoma bridge, the 42km Sagbama-Ekeremor road and the 60MW Gas Turbines Project.

Without doubt, your administration’s decisive policy interventions have paved the way for meaningful reforms in various sectors, including power, enabling us to deliver on our pledge of reliable, independent energy through the construction of these 60‑megawatt gas‑fired turbines.

Thank you Mr. President for your love, partnership and kind words about our valued service to the people of this great state.

Let me express my appreciation to our leader, former President Goodluck Jonathan, Senate President, Obong Godswill Akpabio, my brother-governors, and other distinguished guests who joined us to celebrate this moment of progress and prosperity for our people.

I wish to also appreciate our good people of the state for their show of love and great display of Ijaw hospitality by turning out en masse across several communities to welcome Mr. President to the Glory of all Lands. Mbana!
