Did you know, through Bill C-37 the Liberal government has refused to confirm the human right of all First Nations individuals to clean drinking water on reserve. Previous water legislation explicitly recognized this right, but the Liberals have deliberately removed it in Bill C-37. Apparently, in a country as rich as Canada, they seem to think First Nations do not have the right to something so basic as clean, safe drinking water. (1/2)

Mark Carney continues to be a capitalist gaslighter as he signs a new monopoly deal with Bell for $52 billion to expand an AI datacentre while Canadians are dying homeless, without food, addicted and without access to fast and effective healthcare, the Canadian Disability benefit is a federal failure with the DTC still gatekeeping, the UNCRPD has been yelling at the Liberals for a decade to help people with disabilities, the largest minority group in Canada.

"FIRST, THE AVI LEWIS effect can’t be discounted. It’s important to remember that the single biggest factor in the NDP’s catastrophic 2025 election wipeout was the migration of a good chunk of its base to the Liberals.

This matters for obvious reasons, but it’s also relevant because so much discourse since has concerned the bleed of blue-collar NDP voters to the Conservatives. Though that’s undoubtedly a real phenomenon, I strongly believe its scale and significance have been greatly exaggerated.

As I wrote back in January:
[T]he decisive factor in the NDP’s collapse—evident in these seats and many others—was its considerable bleeding of support to the Liberals. To this point, data published by Ipsos Reid suggests that, while 5 percent of 2021 NDP voters switched to the Conservatives, nearly four times that number (19 percent) switched to the Liberals. Even in seats that swung to the former, this often had major implications.

Since his victory at the NDP’s Winnipeg convention a few months ago, as I argued here, Avi Lewis has successfully brought the party renewed attention and, on a number of critical issues, reintroduced a vital social democratic critique into the national debate

THE CONSERVATIVES ARE struggling because Carney has outflanked them on the right. And the NDP is gaining ground for the exact same reason.

Insofar as there are meaningful points of ideological distinction between government and opposition since April 2025, they’ve mostly been differences of degree rather than sharp breaks. For as long as anyone can remember, the Conservatives have been arguing for public spending cuts, the reduction of federal taxes, the removal of regulatory constraints in the oil and gas sector in particular, and the state-subsidized construction of new pipelines.

They’ve also wanted more money spent on the military and have repeatedly insisted that the best means of addressing Canada’s ongoing crisis in the cost of living is, well, to cut public spending, reduce taxes, and remove regulations.

And you can see what the problem is, right? The preceding is basically a truncated description of the Carney program, which means, in turn, that opposition leader Pierre Poilievre and the Conservatives now spend much of their time fighting the government on its own chosen turf rather than articulating any kind of real alternative. In practice, this often means complaining when the Liberals do the very things Poilievre has said they should do, then insisting they aren’t doing them fast or competently enough."

"Like many voters, I supported the #Liberals in the last election to stop #PierrePoilievre and because I trusted #MarkCarney’s global reputation as a climate leader.

But since taking power, the reality of Carney’s government has been a profound disappointment for anyone who cares about the climate crisis.

Here is what his new “Climate Competitiveness Strategy” looks like in practice:
• Scrapping the consumer carbon tax, the very market-based tool he once championed.
• Gutting clean grid targets, pushing the 100% fossil-free electricity goal from 2035 back to 2050 while green-lighting new gas plants.
• Weakening methane regulations and fast-tracking major LNG and pipeline infrastructure under the guise of “nation-building” exemptions.
• Subsidizing oil extraction by extending carbon-capture tax credits to “enhanced oil recovery”, using captured carbon to extract even more oil.
• Watering down industrial carbon pricing in an agreement with Alberta, dropping the target from $170/ton by 2030 to just $130 by 2040.

As the Canadian Climate Institute has warned, moves like these put Canada’s 2050 net-zero goals further out of reach. All of this is happening while the government refuses a windfall tax on oil and gas companies making record profits from global energy spikes.

Carney has chosen to accommodate the right rather than lead on the defining crisis of our time.

That is why I am moving my support to the NDP under Avi Lewis. If we want real climate action, we must stop settling for centrist compromise and demand policies that meet the scale of the crisis."

Perspective: Doug Ford's crimes and costs vs Doubling ODSP.

#ODSP (Ontario Disability Support Program):
502,112 beneficiaries in 2025
$1,408 maximum allowance
= $706,973,696 maximum cost

#OW (Ontario Works Unemployment):
483,000 beneficiaries in 2025
$733 maximum allowance
= $354,039,000 maximum cost

Total Social Assistance Cost in Ontario:
$1,061,012,696 or $1 billion dollars a month.

That's the same price as the Beer Store contract cancellation ($1.4 b) and the Ontario Place privatization and demolishment ($1.0 b)

That's one fifth the price of the WSIB employer payout stolen from injured workers ($5.2 b).

That's one sixth the cost of the Ontario Line overrun ($6.2 b) or one whole year's worth of double social assistance for the entire project cost so far ($27 b).

Or that's 1/9th of the corporate subsidies that Ontario provides to corporations as this province is now the Corporate Welfare King

Poverty Accrues Interest: $33 billion spent on poverty maintenance, poor diets leading to hospitalization, homeless or addicted recipients repeatedly facing trauma, moving costs and community start up.

Through preventative care, doubling ODSP and OW and increasing work access/employment training programs we can give people a chance at paying rent, eating right and having access to treatment/work if they want it.

Doug Ford has cost us $36 billion dollars so far, doubling ODSP and OW would have cost $12 billion less than that and provided the rental/income safety for people to get employment and leave these programs of their own accord.

Less than 1% of ODSP fraud, you need to fight for years while on OW to get access. Giving people the income needed in society today to stabilize and find ways to provide for themselves not only will save money long-term but improve the lives of the most vulnerable in #Ontario.
