I think the second edition map is much larger. Agree that all of the columbia block classics (Julius Caesar, hammer of the scots, etc) + GMT CDGs (Washington's war, sword of rome, etc) would be substantially improved and more popular with a modern refresh. Successors is a testament to this theory.

I was immediately drawn to the aesthetics but candidly expected less from the game. Played last weekend and was pleasantly surprised - the game has depth but retains simplicity. No one is doing a better job than phalanx of marrying interesting historical topics with top tier production quality
