THOUGHTS ON NUKES:

This below account assumes that while Iran has at least 1000 pounds of nuclear material enough for 10+ bombs, they cannot make these bombs, even though the technology is shown in the internet; no testing needed.

It also assumes that even though Iranians have demonstrated masterful skills with missiles both in June 2025 and also in 2026, they can somehow not put these warheads into missiles.

Perhaps most importantly is the size of Iran:

how many nuclear weapons will US need to send to Iran to have them give up like Japan in 1945?

Is it 2 nukes, 20 nukes, 200 nukes, 2000 nukes?

During Cuban crisis, Russia had installed 300 nukes in that small island. Gen. MacArthur wanted to drop 24 nukes on China, after he dropped 2 on Japan in 1945.

Does US even have working nukes? The last testing was 32 years ago.

US dropped more bombs on Vietnam than in WW2, killing up to 4 million people and lost the war.

Do bombs even win the war?

By the same token, Russia did not send any nukes to Ukraine and Israel did not send any nukes to Iran.

So my guess is that US has to make a plan for at least 300 nukes on Iran, but exclude the possibility that Iran will not nuke back in response, where ever they will aim given existential attack.

US also has to assume that China will not equip Iran with intercontinental nuclear missiles or N Korea will not aim at US while US will nuking Iran.

For these reasons, at this stage of the war, nukes are not a feasible plan & the fact that US has nukes solves nothing.

This is as close as the Administration is going to come to declaring that conventional deterrence in Asia is indeed dead. So I am glad to see it.

The @USWPColby idea of threatening first use with tactical nukes cannot fly. For multiple reasons.

First, there is no reason to believe that the US can overmatch China in a regional nuclear war. In fact, given the scale of Chinese territory relative to US basing options in the region, and the fact that they are 'working from home' means that Chinese tactical missile brigades will almost surely be more survivable and powerful than their US counterparts.

Second, as I have explained before, any US strikes on the Chinese mainland will elicit retaliatory strikes on CONUS. If the US uses conventional weapons to attack mainland launch sites, China WILL HAVE TO RESPOND by attacking CONUS bases with conventional ICBMs. If the US uses tactical nukes, China WILL HAVE TO RESPOND by attacking CONUS bases with nuclear missiles. So, this is a recipe for strategic nuclear war.

Finally and most importantly, the balance of resolve is extremely favorable to China in any conflict over Taiwan. This is because China regards Taiwan as national territory, while for the US it is a question of extended deterrence.

This means that the threat Colby has in mind is not credible. The second missile age is strategically defense dominant. This is a structural feature of our technological era. It cannot be repealed by clever tricks.

If I hear another Boomer conservative bitching about Gen Z ordering DoorDash I’m going to become a communist. It’s true their grandparents always cooked homemade meals. But that’s because grandma stayed at home and grandpa had a union job and nobody could reach him after 5. They had a house with a full kitchen and 3 kids by 25. Meanwhile half of Gen Z men are forced to compete with the entire population of South America for some 12 hour long shift HVAC job that barely pays the rent. They’re 30 and nobody cooks for them because they can’t find any women who’ll marry them when they can’t even afford a starter home in the ghetto. The other half of Gen Z men are busting their ass competing with the entire populations of India and China for some 70 hour a week powerpoint job that asks them for updates on the slides at 3AM. They can’t find anyone to cook for them either, because every women around them is convinced that being a mother and cooking for a man is beneath them because they’re gonna save the world when they become VP of Marketing at MegaCorp in 20 years.

Update: the White House has declassified the full basis for the FBI's probe of Trump as a Russian asset. This investigation, ordered by Andrew McCabe in May 2017, followed July 2016's Crossfire Hurricane, which targeted members of Trump's campaign for a suspected conspiracy with Russia.

The FBI's basis for eyeing Trump as a Russian asset included the manufactured "controversy" over a meaningless edit to the RNC's 2016 platform. The FBI found it suspicious that a Trump campaign member changed some language that called for arming Ukraine, because "this platform change would be favorable to Russian interests."

In reality, the RNC platform committee merely rejected a proposal to endorse “lethal defensive weapons” to Ukraine. The Republicans’ final platform text instead called for “appropriate assistance to the armed forces of Ukraine,” which could easily have included weapons, and was nonetheless far more hawkish than the Democrats’ platform that same summer. And whatever your views on arming Ukraine, is this a legit reason to investigate the sitting president as a Russian asset?

When the FBI answered my FOIA request for this document in December 2024, they completely redacted this. Now that the full version has been released, it's easy to understand why. Their "factual basis" was baseless.

China is changing the game... it can produce hypersonic missiles for ~$100K each.

For context:

- The US has no large fully operational equivalent
- Has no effective defense system against them
- A single US air-defense missile costs $4-40 million

Now imagine China selling these systems to allies, like the Houthis...

Cheap missiles and drones are reshuffling the global military balance, and it is becoming increasingly obvious that the US can no longer control key chokepoints as it once did.

This has major implications for the petrodollar and the dollar's role as the global reserve currency.

And history is clear: when empires lose their economic edge, they often resort to war in an attempt to preserve their position.
