@philyptian @OfWaqf The fatwa that was passed by Mufti Sayed Haroon al-Azhari, the Head of the Cape Town Ulama Board, dealt decisively with each of the three questions, taking both the context of questioning and the nature of the investigation into consideration.

@philyptian @OfWaqf We also drafted an istifta (a question preceding a fatwa/scholarly opinion) about a) whether there are grounds in the Shari'ah to preclude an Imam from leading the Salaah amidst such an investigation; b) the applicability of the principle of ihtiyat; c) our responsibilities.

@aliciarjooste: We live in a traumatized society, with many families carrying inter-generational trauma. This trauma is reproduced through harmful societal norms that the state is ill-equipped to dismantle. It falls on us to challenge these norms through our conversations.
