Open Letter from MER-C to the President of the Republic of Indonesia

Dear Mr. Ir. H. Joko Widodo, President of the Republic of Indonesia

Peace be upon you, and may the mercy of Allah and His blessings be upon you— greetings of peace for all of us.
Today marks the 36th day of the world witnessing indiscriminate aggression, murder, and mass slaughter of civilians in the Gaza Strip, the majority of whom are women and children. Residential areas, including places of worship such as mosques and churches, schools, evacuation locations, and various other public facilities, not to mention all hospitals in the Gaza Strip, have fallen victim to the brutality of the Israeli military.

Tens of thousands have lost their lives, and tens of thousands more are injured, unable to receive proper treatment due to the depletion of medications, the blackout of electricity in hospitals due to fuel shortages, and a series of other distressing situations.

The people of Gaza live without hope now, without food, water, electricity, and fuel amid the intensified air and ground attacks by Israel, disregarding humanity and international laws.
The Indonesia Hospital, a national asset built in the northern part of Gaza with funds from the Indonesian people from Sabang to Merauke, constructed by the hands of our fellow countrymen, has not escaped becoming a target. Israel has spread various false accusations and framings to legitimize attacks on the Indonesia Hospital.

For your information, Mr. President, currently, three MER-C volunteers, Indonesian citizens, are still in the Gaza Strip at the Indonesia Hospital to deliver aid entrusted by the Indonesian people to the people of Palestine in the Gaza Strip.

The Indonesia Hospital is now trying to survive and operate amid darkness and a shortage of medications because it is the only hope for the people of North Gaza to seek refuge and access medical treatment.

Will the world and our Indonesian nation continue to remain silent in the face of this?

Therefore, as representatives of the Indonesian people, on behalf of the Indonesian nation that owns the Indonesia Hospital in the Gaza Strip, we hope that you, Mr. President, with all your capacities, can bring about change and save the Indonesia Hospital in the Gaza Strip.

We hope that during the meeting with the President of the United States, Joe Biden, you can convey this matter, exerting pressure on the world, especially the United States, to immediately initiate a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and save the Indonesia Hospital from Israeli attacks.

This open letter is for your special attention, Mr. President.
