For all my non hispanic mutuals, I want to clarify something about Fairly Gab, in the Venezuelan vocabulary there is an expretion “mariko” that literally translates as “faggot” but it has no homophobic context and in spanish it would be the same as saying “friend, partner, etc”☝️

[Dan🌸🎍 @lim0nadaconsoda]

ACTUALLY 🧐 There is a difference between maricón and marico/a. Maricón is closer in meaning to "fagg0t" and it's often used directly as an insult (for example, in Mexico and Central America, it's mostly an insult) or as an adjective for coward (no seas maricón!= don't be a coward!), but it also depends on context, as some people from the LGBTQ+ community have reclaimed the word. If there's enough trust, you might use it with friends.

Now, marico/a is more known for being used in Venezuela and Colombia, and it is closer in meaning to "dude, bro, buddy, even ' he or she '." And people use it in a variety of different contexts, from talking to a friend to expressing anger, excitement, etc. It still has a homosexual undertone and can be an insult DEPENDING ON CONTEXT.

Shouldn't be necessary to explain this, but here we are...

[Pablotsss @Pablots19]

Yo nunca había pensado en eso, en el QSMP si un colombiano dice
“Hablalo marica” lo traduce
“SPEAK YOU F*GGOT” no puede ser
