A language's place in the digital world begins with being heard.

The Digital India @_BHASHINI Division, under MeitY, in collaboration with the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bengaluru, has developed AI-powered Text-to-Speech (TTS) models for Sourashtra, a minority Indo-Aryan language spoken predominantly by the Sourashtra community in Tamil Nadu.

The models generate spoken audio directly from text, offering male and female voices in both Tamil and Sourashtra scripts. The initiative opens new possibilities for language learning, accessible digital content, research and the wider use of Sourashtra in digital applications.

By bringing underrepresented Indian languages into the AI ecosystem, @_BHASHINI continues to advance multilingual digital inclusion and help make technology more accessible to diverse linguistic communities.
