I am delighted by the landmark signing of the new Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) between Lekki Freeport Terminal (LFT), the Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria (MWUN), and the NPA Senior Staff Union. The agreement represents a significant victory for workers, with salary and allowances receiving increases of up to 150%, alongside improved overtime, weekend, public holiday, transport, feeding, housing, utility and hazardous allowances.
For me, this achievement demonstrates what can be accomplished when workers’ welfare is placed at the heart of genuine negotiation and dialogue. I commend the leadership of MWUN, SSASCGOC and LFT management for reaching this agreement after months of painstaking negotiations without industrial action. It is a positive development for the Nigerian maritime industry and a clear indication that workers deserve fair and competitive remuneration.
I am equally encouraged by the proposed commencement of the General Dockworkers NJIC, which I believe will further strengthen workers’ welfare across Nigerian port terminals. This is a welcome step forward, and I look forward to seeing the gains of this agreement translate into better working conditions, improved productivity and greater prosperity for maritime workers.

PRESS RELEASE:
MWUN SETS FOR SHOWDOWN WITH TEMILE DEVELOPMENT COMPANY OVER REFUSAL TO UNIONIZE ITS WORKERS
The leadership of the Maritime Workers' Union of Nigeria (MWUN) under its President -General, Comrade Francis Bunu Abi in collaboration with Nigerian Merchant Navy Officers and Water Transport Senior Staff Association (NMNO-WTSSA), have vowed to unionize the Maritime Workers in the employment of Temile Development Company Nig. Ltd; situated at No. 2, Omedu Street, Rumueme, Port Harcourt, Rivers State.
It would be recalled that the Maritime Workers' Union of Nigeria (MWUN), had severally written letters of Unionization to the aforementioned company based in Port Harcourt for the unionization of its members-the MWUN and NMNO-WTSSSA respectively, but Temile Development Company has defiantly refused to respond to both unions, which headquarters are in Lagos; calling bluff of the two Unions.
Also Recall that on the 26th May, 2025; 16th September, 2025, and October, 2025; all of recent and that of April 1st, 2026 in respect of same subject matter - titled: "Request For The Unionization of Our Members In Your Company"; which the Port Harcourt based company had completely ignored.
The President -General of MWUN, Comrade Bunu has said that no company in Nigeria and in any part of this world is bigger than the Labour Unions, affiliate bodies and its governing laws in all ramifications, particularly when it entails the enslavement of workers in today's labour world, where casualization of workers has been prohibited; therefore, not in Nigeria would such barbaric act or practice can exist or work.
Comrade Bunu said that "Casualization" of workers has become a thing of the past and it's no longer in vogue; therefore, any employer of labour who still indulge in such archaic practice of casualization of workers will be thoroughly dealt with; as humans can no longer be hired for peanuts or cheap labour in guise of giving Nigerians employment; saying that such Labour laws violator will be severely dealt with accordingly.
The Ijaw born Labour Activist and astute Maritime Labour Administrator had warned that the Management of Temile Development Company Nig Ltd, must respond to all the letters sent to them by the Unions and a date be fixed for a joint meeting within a 21-Day ultimatum of this publication, or face the wrath of the Union.

Christ arose from the dead, signifying His manifestation powers over death with the redemption of man from all iniquities by reconciling man unto God.
The PG of MWUN, Comrade Bunu, in his Easter message, says, in view of the above, mankind should always thrive in the legacy of our Lord Jesus Christ, who came and died for the love of man and to save man from the destruction of our sins. The Maritime Workers' Union number one citizen, further said that our Lord Jesus shed his precious blood on the Cross of Calvary for the remission of our iniquities; thereby, demonstrating how much our Lord Jesus Christ so much love the world that we should not perish but have everlasting life and inherit the Kingdom of God.

The Ijaw-born Labour Activist further admonished Christians to lead first with love and forgiveness, as that is the symbol of Christianity, as demonstrated by our Lord, Jesus Christ, while on this planet, doing good, healing the sick, raising the dead, and restoring hope for the hopeless in society. Jesus Christ was known for his going about everywhere doing good and performing miracles.
Therefore, mankind in this Easter celebration, humanity must rekindle the love and forgiveness of Jesus in symbolical and in demonstration of Christ's work while on planet earth if the world must be a better place for us all to inhabit.

The President -General of the Maritime Workers' Union further said that the celebration of Eid al-Fitr must not be taken for granted after the long period of fasting, which also demonstrates a period of purity and communion with the Almighty Allah. He says that our faith in the Almighty Allah will be incomplete if as Muslims, we cannot co-habit with our brothers and sisters of other faiths and religions; reminding us that we are from one Creator of the Universe; hence, we all must accord each other the necessary mutual respect. And until we recognize this simple truth, peace will be difficult to come by but may God forbid.

The Almighty Allah is the ultimate judge of every creature on earth and not a man in all his misdeeds.
Comrade Bunu also extended his Eid felicitations to every Muslim across the globe, praying for the war victims, a needless war that has engulfed the Middle East; saying the war is just between two brothers and the needless war must stop to avoid further killings and destruction of property and humanity.
He further thanked all Muslims in Nigeria and across the world on this day and asked that those tormenting humanity in the North East and other parts of Nigeria and across the world must drop their arms and embrace peace; for just one reason of the philosophy of Prophet Mohammed, who came to propagate Islam, the religion of love and peace across the earth.
Comrade Bunu concluded by saluting all Muslims across the world during this year Eid-Fitr also advocating for a crime-free society during the holy religious celebration.

MWUN DECRIES THEFTS AT THE SEAPORT PORTS
The Maritime Workers' Union of Nigeria (MWUN) under the leadership of its President -General, Comrade Francis Bunu Abi has decried thefts at the quay aprons of the sea ports in Lagos.
Recently an incident of theft occurred on board Vessel MV ZY JU HE in EKO Support, approximately 0400hrs (4.00am) of Sunday.
The information reaching the Union indicates that five tins of paint from the AFT store of the said Vessel were removed including a crew member mobile phone.
However, it was clearly observed that the unknown perpetrators didn't access the vessel with the aid of ladder; and that the lightens surrounding the paint store wasn't bright enough; hence, visibility was poor and that may have aided the miscreants to perpetuate their crime.
The safety men on board the said vessel promptly raised alarm, but that effort wasn't audible enough, even with the blasts of their whistles. Although, every item stolen from the vessel were thrown into the sea, while the perpetrators jumped overboard and escaped with a speed boat when the vessel alarm was activated.
The PG of MWUN, Comrade Bunu, when contacted on the issue was in a furious state and said that the security at the Ports quay aprons have become porous that thieves now easily access vessels and cart away items belonging to crew members and vessel maintenance materials such as paints and other valuable materials with such ease.
The Maritime Labour Activist and Expert is however, making a passionate plea to all the security agencies within the sea ports across the country to be more vigilant in their duties of protecting lives and property, and by making sure that the Ports premises and quay aprons are adequately safe for day to day running of businesses.
He also called on the Police Force, the Nigerian Navy to be more vigilant and committed in this regard so that our sea ports will not be branded "unsafe" for business at all times as expected.
