Good works are not the end goal of the Christian.

To love God, and be loved by God is the end goal of the Christian. If both of those are true, and understood to the core, the inevitable result will be good works.

My works are not for my salvation, they are a result of my salvation. Manufactured fruit does not lead to heart change. However, a genuine heart change does lead to overflowing into a life of good works by the power of The Holy Spirit.
