The conference concluded with a sense of renewed commitment towards achieving the goals set out in OYSU’s mission and vision, namely to advocate for, and champion the rights of Somali people in #Ethiopia.
On September 1-3 2019, Ogaden Youth and Student Union (OYSU) held its 4th international conference in Jigjiga, Somali Region where Cumar Sheikh Abdullahi was elected as chairman.
Together, youth delegates strategised on the future of the organisation in light of the rapid political shifts that Ethiopia has undergone in the past year.

A few wks ago we shared with you the story of 13yr old Idris from Qubi. Thanks to the support offered by youth from around the world, we were able to bring Idris from Qubbi to Jigjiga to receive medical attention.
Within the last three days at least 23 people have been killed and 63 others wounded. Ogaden Youth and Student Union vehemently condemns the ongoing violence in #Moyale.

The #Oromo-#Somali border town #Moyale is currently a site of deadly conflict, the death toll is rising every day and until a lasting solution is found – this situation is likely to escalate and breed further instability.

Moreover, OYSU UK were joined by Abdirahman Sh. Mahdi - Secretary General of Ogaden National Liberation Front (ONLF) for an interactive session on the perspective of youth on the recent peace deal, and their role in its implementation- including possible challenges.
OYSU UK organised a one day event with Conciliation Resources focusing on the role and contributing of youth to peace and development in the Ogaden-Somali region during this transitional period.
This process was in part informed by a conversation that the youth had with Jabarti Bainah via call conference, where he shared his perspectives and observations on the most critical needs of the Somali people in the Ogaden during this time.
