Chinese Boss Beaten to Death in Bangkok After Refusing to Pay Myanmar Workers

A Chinese construction employer was killed and another Chinese man seriously injured Tuesday evening in Bangkok. Thai police are hunting four Myanmar workers, reportedly two married couples, following a violent wage dispute at a construction camp in Lat Krabang.

The two Chinese men had arrived to distribute wages to around 60 Myanmar workers. According to witnesses, the employer criticized four workers over poor workmanship. When they said they wanted to quit, he reportedly refused to pay them because they hadn't given advance notice.

Police say the confrontation turned violent, with the four allegedly attacking the Chinese men using a steel bar and knife before escaping with 40,000–50,000 baht in payroll cash.

Investigators recovered a bloodstained steel bar and wage envelope at the scene. One suspect has been identified, but all four remained at large in the initial reports.
