God’s Interest in Our Health

3 John 1:2 says: “I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth.”

The English word health means wholeness, and this is exactly how the Bible sees health:
Not just freedom from sickness, but a complete state of well-being in the body, mind, and spirit,rooted in God’s presence.

Healing in Scripture is always about restoring wholeness, not just curing symptoms.

3. Health as Alignment with God’s Life.

Since health equals wholeness, true health in the Bible means living in harmony with God’s will,spiritually, mentally, and physically.

So when the Bible speaks of God giving shalom, it is more than “peace of mind” it is total wellness of life.

2. God as Source of Wholeness.

God says in Exodus 15:26 “I am the Lord that healeth thee.”
The Hebrew word rapha used, means to restore and to make whole.

1. Being in health equals Wholeness.

In the Old Testament, the Hebrew word shalom is translated as peace, which also carries the sense of wholeness, completeness, well-being, prosperity, and health.

The word health originated from Old English hǣlth which originally meant wholeness or soundness.
This lines up beautifully with the biblical view of health, which is never just about the body, but the whole person which includes body, soul, and spirit.

His care covers every aspect of life, reminding us that wholeness is His will for us and for the communities we live in.

While He desires that we live healthy lives individually, God’s vision goes beyond just personal wellness. He longs for a healthy society where people can thrive physically, emotionally, and spiritually.
